Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

Looking out for my health

Dear Diary: :-) My gyn has been watching a 'growth' on my ovary since my last CT scan in August. I finally made an appointment with her to talk about my worries and I'm getting a second opinion with a gyn oncologist. I sat on my digestive issues for years before finally getting a colonoscopy and have kicked myself ever since. So, I pushed a little and have a new doc checking on this 'non-simple' cyst. Whatever that is. It's hard to walk the line between 'am I now a whiner' and ignoring health problems. I'm tired of Dr. appointments, but I'm glad I whined.

Don't worry about being a whiner..if you body tells you that something is wrong..LISTEN. My doctor put me on anti depressants because I was in the office so much he said it was in my head..I have stage 4 colon cancer because he didn't do his job and catch it in time. I know how it is to be tired of doctors..but your health is worth the time.

Grrrr. Why is it easier for some doctors to assume we're crazy not sick? Dang. I hate hearing that but it is much more prevalent on this site than I ever would have guessed.

Some of it may be bias in women's health care. In my case, I think I knew something was wrong long before the cancer actually took hold. Perhaps that's a woman's instinctive survival mechanism related to child bearing role?

Anyway, I was diagnosed "significant for depression", "irritable bowel syndrom" and "stress". Didn't find what's wrong with me until I passed out and ended up in emergency.

You know what it's like, women always hear that squeak in the car no mechanic seems to hear. Then we are by the side of the road calling AAA! LOL
