Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
I am an appendix cancer survivor. I had a right hemicolectomy, hysterectomy, tumor debulking and hipec (heated interperitoneal chemo which is chemo given straight into the abdomen. I was dxd in 2007 and had bothsurgeries in 2007. I started having severe digestion issues approximately three years ago. I had severe diarrhea alternating with the opposite....constipation. after dealing with it for several months, i went to a gastro dr. He explained that during the right hemi, the ileocecal valve was removed. The valve controls the flow of bacteria between the small and large intestines. Without it, the waste backs up into the small intestine and the bacteria causes flu like symptoms. It is horrible. I have had diarrhea everyday several times a day since May. I also have horrible stomach pain and nausea. I occasionally vomit. I don't digest food well either. It pretty much comes out looking like it did going in. I am hoping to be able to get advice from others who have had this problem after having a right hemi...i am really not doing well. Help please :(
I am a retired R.N. I don't have cancer but I follow different blogs. I am so sorry to hear about your problems. One thing that you might try is to eat raw Old Fashioned Oatmeal. Pour a bowl and moisten it with rice milk. Don't add any sugar. Oat meal absorbs liquids and can make stools more solid. It also has a healing effect on many intestinal problems. I have seen it help things such as irritable bowel syndrome to Crohns disease. I think that it may help you. It certainly won't hurt. You do take care, God bless, Your friend,
