Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
So I went to see one of the two PMP specialist surgeons in the UK yesterday and it turns out that I don't have what they normally call Pseudomyxoma Peritonei(PMP) as this does not normally involve lymph nodes, and when I had my original tumour removed there was 1 out of 12 lymph nodes involved.
So what I do have they are calling mucinous adenocarcinoma type of PMP for which the treatment is pretty much the same, open me up remove as many visible tumours as they can see, remove my omentum and possibly my spleen and resect part of my liver and then give me heated inter peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
When the specialist had my CT's reviewed by world leading radiologist on his team apparently there was evidence of this recurrence back in August 08 and now there are possible mets on the surface of my liver.
He can't give me any survival odds as there are so few of these cases and until he opens me up he can't tell the extent of the disease.
Any my surgery is scheduled for early next year around Jan/Feb, in the meantime the surgeon has recommended that I go skiing as part of getting fit for surgery.

I am so sorry about this, Mark. I have a friend who also has a very rare cancer, and they also missed her recurrence.

You are inspiring me... I may have to get on the ole ski boots and drag out the wooden planks this season and give it a go. My friends use to woosh by me yelling, " MARG, You're planting your pole on the wrong side! "

Normally we ski at Sunday River in Maine (www.sundayriver.com) but this year they are having a poor start to the season snow wise so we are looking at west coast canada or Europe at the moment.
Whistler sounds fabulous! I grew up in Washington state, and we used to spend a lot of time in BC.
