Colon Cancer Support Group
Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Whilst in hospital for the first couply of days after the surgery I was not allowed to eat then food was introduced slowly. First off thin soup ie water with a bit of stock in it and gradually to full meals.
When I left hospital I had lost about 10 lbs but quickly put that back on when I arrived home. During chemo which was tablet form for me I did not lose weight and from what I understand others here did not lose wieght during chemo either.
Hope this helps
You will be in my prayers, all will go well for you.

Like Nat, I too gained weight. Most of my chemo buddies did as well. My Oncologist was happy with that. My appetite didn't wane, and I exercised when I could on my good weeks off chemo. On my chemo weeks, I'd listen to my body and rest when it asked for it. The anti-nausea drugs worked well to keep the nausea at bay (when I was a good girl and took them lol) and I included some meditation too.
One thing I did do before chemo started, was have a full dental. They flushed my mouth and throat with bicarb too to get rid of any underlying bacteria. Some people suffered ulcers of the mouth. I didn't have that. My hair thinned only slightly. No-one noticed.
Everyone's symptoms and treatments vary here. Your body will react different to others, but there's always someone around who will be able to relate to what your going through, and there's a lot of prayers on offer. Your not alone on your journey Capecod, we're all along for the ride with you. My prayers for your upcoming treatments and surgery. :}

I think MY weight loss was from not being able to eat solid foods for quite a while before my dx. Now I'm eating healthier and smaller amounts. I'm certainly not scrawny at 125lb/ 5'2".
