Did you find the information you wanted on HIPEC? My husband had it in 2007 for pseudomyxoma peritonii. There are specialists that treat PMP with HIPEC as well as surgery. PMP does not invade the organs typically nor the lymph nodes. It is a mucous that clings to abdominal organs and can harden. There is a yahoo group called PMP Bellybuttons that talks about everything from surgeons to chemo to insurance issues.

My husband had this procedure in for mets in his peritoneal cavity as well. It was an extensive surgery. I think from the time that they took him to surgery to when I saw him in ICU was about 18 hours. The doctors thought that they got everything they could. They found a tumor at the site where they put his colon back together after the first surgery that no one knew about in advance. The doctor said it was so large they were unsure how he wasn't obstructed again. He lost his belly button during the procedure... looked a little funny after that but hey, what are belly buttons for anyways. He had the procedure in September and during a check up in November he already had elevated CEA levels. While he was not re-diagnosed until February of 2014, it did eventually come back. I am not trying to scare you or tell you it isn't worth it but it is a hard procedure and pending on the shape that your husband is in can be very hard to bounce back from. Also peritoneal mets are the least common to have, usually it goes to the liver and or lungs, so as much as I hate to say it they are the hardest to fight. You just cant see something that is so small that X-rays, or MRI's, or PET scans can't pick up. We thought that after a few rounds of chemo he would be able to have the procedure again but when we went to see his surgeon he told him he wouldn't perform the surgery because Ryan's tumors were not shrinking with the chemo. He was no longer a candidate for surgery of any kind. I just want you to have both sides. We thought HIPEC was going to be our saving grace, since this was his second re-occurrence but it didn't work for my Ryan. Best advice is to get a surgeon whom has done at least 100 of these surgeries and specifically a large amount on colon mets because this procedure was originally used I believe for cancers of the appendix. Also if the doctor tells you to do chemo after the surgery, do it. Ryan wanted to wait to see if his CEA changed before he went back on chemo and I can't help but wonder what would have happened had he did the other six rounds of chemo.
