Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Turns out that the queen mother had colon, beat it and went on to live to a ripe old age. An inspiration to us all.

Another high profile person who had Stage 3 colon cancer is Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
"Ginsburg was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 1999 and underwent surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. During the process, she did not miss a day on the bench."
Mark went on to skii the slopes of ... where ever it is you ski the slopes of... and notagaintoo rode her horses into her 90's.
BTW...on inspiring elders.. Just celebrated my landlords 90th, he had tea and a little piece of cake with us, and then proceeded to get out the ladder and cut down big heavy trumpet vines from the third floor... and my 82 year old pal from the gym just returned from her trip clearing trails in Yosemite : )
They didn t have cancer but, I m thinking I should be working in the garden : )
One of my favorite elders was Edmund Bacon (Kevin Bacon's dad). I wrote about him in my journal. I also knew a lady in Virginia who foxhunted and played tennis into her 90's. What all of these elders had in common was an almost childlike "joie de vivre" and sense of adventure.
