Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

As surgery gets ever closer and having read the latest paper written by my surgeon http://www.wjgnet.com/1948-5204/pdf/v2/i1/44.pdf, I hit kind of a low as basically the paper says things are stacked against me, previous surgery, mucinous adenocarcinoma rather than non-carcinomatosis.

So after moping around for a day or so I've decided since I can't do much to change things I'm going to stop feeling sorry for myself and make the most of life and try beat the odds ... easy to say not so so easy to do but hey who ever said life was easy.

Anyway off skiing again on Monday for 10 days, this time to Maine in New England.

And I left out the "e" at the end of Maine -)! I think your odds are terrific, Mark - honestly! I have learned to read between the lines in these articles. The statistics are obsolete and don't reflect patients treated with the most recent therapies. How many people had HIPEC 10, 20 years ago? I think this is important:

"Recent reports suggest that the initial high morbidity
and mortality seen with CRS and HIPEC decreases with
increasing experience. This is most marked in specialized
centres and includes improvements in patient selection,
surgical expertise and postoperative management."

That's why I tell everyone to find the best possible doctor. You are in the best possible hands.

When you go flying down the mountain, imagine that the cancer cells can't keep up with you. That's what I used to do when I ran.

funny you should say that, when my wife and I were skiing over christmas we kept telling cancer to go to the top of the mountain and wait for something and then we would ski away in the opposite direction :-)

Mark I've already told you a story of my co-worker. She had the same thing you have, she did heated chemo, she id perfectly fine almost 6 yers later. It's doable.
