I had a ct and blood work at 6 months and again at 1 year. It was at 2 years and only by accident that they found the cancer had moved to my lungs.A lot of doctors dont checked the lungs..so make should that yours does. It's not common that it goes to the lungs but it does happen. If they had checked mine earlier..maybe I wouldnt be dying now.

If you haven't already, ask to get a PET scan. I have a CT every 6months and a PET every year - along with blood work. It's normal to be anxious after treatment, after all, your safety net (the oncologist) is not in your life as often. Live but be sure to get your scans and blood work.

Hi kate...mine too went to my lung. I had pet scans every 6 mo the first year and ct's every 4 months. I will be 3 years out next month and having ct's every 8 months. My onc. is happy with my progress, but still guarded. He wants to keep my cea's below 5...so far they've stayed at 1. I understand oh so well the fears of every little ache and twinge. It's just a terrible little gremlin that constantly follows me around. But the important thing is that you are alive and a survivor...every day!!!

Hi Kate, good job on getting through the treatments. I had Oxi too, and found my neuropathy worsened over the month after I finished chemo. My hands are good, but still feel it in the feet. I'm two years post chemo now, and feeling fantastic. I can relate to the anxiousness with every ache and pain. I had 3 monthly bloods and scans for the first year, and 2nd year was 3 monthly bloods and 6 monthly scans and I've been checked in all my organs, lungs included. Next Onc appointment is for Feb which is just bloods, and then I shouldn't have another for 6 months. Had another colonoscopy a year after, and will get them every two years from hereon in.

I believe I had CT scans every 6 months & at the end of year two, they picked up a met in my liver. Originally, I was told nothing showed up in my lymph nodes, the tumor was gone because of radiation & chemo when they resected my colon. After the liver surgery & chemo, I continued to have CT scans every 6 months for every 3 to 4 years. Now that I am past year 5 from the liver met. the oncologist told me some people do not continue to have CT scans yearly & it was up to me. I also get a chest X-ray every time I get a CT scan. I changed my diet somewhat & found that some of foods I was to eat gave me digestive problems but my onc. had warned me to not get too anxious over every little pain.

So glad you posted this, I was about to. Two weeks until my next appt. 1 year and 4 months out of chemo.
Blue Cross turned down my request for a PET/CT scan. So I may ask my family to help me spring for that.
I hear so many people say that they found a MET after two years of being done with chemo that I too am very anxious. I gained weight and I m not working out enough and I m feeling really scared. I have good bowel days and horrible ones. My itchy flaky scalp is back and I am making myself a wreck. So, Good luck at your next appt.
After reading this I m putting on my warm clothes and going for a long walk. Then I m stopping at Whole Foods for some veggies and revving up the juicer. I think living a healthy lifestyle helps to feel like we are at least doing our part to give our body a fighting chance.
