Colon Cancer Support Group
Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
You have my prayers and then some too :)
Re: the Oxy...I started having side effects about treatment #4 - 5. Two months and I will be off chemo for a year...still have some neuropathy in hands (getting better), but feet are still bad, worse if I've been on them all day, but my cancer is gone and I will have been cancer free for 18 months next month. Survivor:)
SurvivorX2, way to go and thank you SO much for being here as a beacon of hope for the rest of us!
Mark 16:18 They will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
GG...Ok, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. My team had me on Neulasta for the white think I had 2 or 3 shots)and Darbepoetin Alfa (Aranesp) for the red (only had 1 shot). I remember mild flu-like symptoms with the Neulasta but that was all.
My white count plummeted around treatments 5 & 6, and I had to push back 2 treatments. But the Neulasta brought it back up quickly and went on to complete all 12 with no further problems. I thought I would have to delay my lung surgery because my platelets were really low from the Avastin. 3 Days before surgery, they (platelets) were 84. They should be at least in the high 90's to clot. So the plan was to give a transfusion of platelets right before I went on the table so I would clot. We prayed over this and the day before my surgery, the platelets count shot up to 115. Go figure!!!!
So I was able to have the surgery without incident.
Hang in there. Chemo is an E-ticket ride at Disneyland. (anyone above 50 and southern california raised will know what I mean) Just get lots of rest. I know it's so tough with the Oxy and trying to eat/drink anything cold. I had to wait about 4 days before I could have iced tea, but I did it with tiny sips.
Diane, by all right I should not have made it, BUT, I did. I kept saying in prayer, "I know you have kept me here for a reason, but I don't know what it is." Maybe this IS part of it. If I can help anyone through this in some small way, then what I went through was worth it.
Love, good positive thoughts and lots of prayers to you both...Survivor :)
