Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

I started out my chemo treatments with a low white blood count. They went down at the next treatment and down again before the 3 rd treatment so they wouldn't give it to me, pushed me back a week. Next blood test wbc was still too low, so they pushed me back another week. So I hope this next blood test (tue) will be up where they can give me the chemo on Wed, Thur, Fri. of this week. Plus I have side effects that last through my 'good week', they deminish somewhat, but still there. So my Dr. finally said she would decrease my dosage, yea!!! I don't know if this is sorta common, does this happen to others ??

Yes GG. Some of my chemo buddies experienced varying side-effects and had their chemo reduced. I battled through mine. I thought if it was making me sick, it was working on the cancer pretty good too.

So I put up with what I could knowing that it soon would pass. Even though it took 8 months rather than 6 due to delays. As long as you listen to your body and talk to your Oncologist about your side-effects, then you can both make decisions based on all the info. Everyone is different. Hi GG...I was on Avastin, 5FU, Leucovorin & Oxaliplatin...felt like a toxic waste before it was all over, still suffer from peripherial neuropathy (cut oxaliplatin by 10%...for 1 dose) and had to have 2 chemo sessions delayed due to low white AND red counts.

I was given Neulasta to stimulate white cells and another shot for the marrow (red cells), I cannot remember the name of that (sorry). Both injections seemed to jump start the red and white cells nicely as numbers came back up. Never had another problem, and went on to complete treatment.

Has your Oncologist recommended these? God speed :)

Hi Survivor, Yes my Dr. said that I would have to have some med. if the white count stayed low. She mentioned Neulasta and another drug (can't remember). She said they have side effects, so I hope I don't have to take them, hope wbc goes up by itself. You didn't mention any side effects when you took the Neulasta, did you have any? Have you finished your chemo treatments? Well I hope you are completely healed forever. I have you on my prayer list. gg

Hi GG...I'm 8 months post chemo, but it's forever etched in my mind! I remember having a feverish - achey feeling sort of like flu shot symptoms, but a couple of tylenol (that's all they'd allow me to take) took care of that. I really don't remember having any severe side effects. But I know they worked :)

My oncologist said if we can keep the "C" at bay for 1 1/2 to 2 years, my chances of it returning are slim to none! I am 1 year 3 months post diagnosed. Thank you, you and many others here are on ours too ;)

A very young woman on another site complained about Neulasta so I asked my chemo nurse about it. She said bone pain, esp in very young women, is the major complaint.

Let's pray you don't NEED any meds, that your body fixes itself.

Well my white blood count went up this week, so I'm in the middle of my 3rd round of chemo, yea. Hope my count stays up without any more delays, just wanna get this over with as soon as possible. Take care all of you out there, God is in control. gg
