Thank you for the uplifting comments. She has done very well and has worked throughout her radiation/chemo and chemo. I guess we are both just very nervous as this is the first ct scan since she has had the treatments.

I am so amazed by your strength and courage - so much like my daughter. I have been encouraged so often in the past eight months reading your posts. I do pray for all I read about here and I wish everyone the very best.

I don't know much about rectal cancer as mine was in the ascending colon, which they removed and I had 6 months of chemo. But hearing that she has so much energy sounds very good indeed! As far as being a nervous wreck with every exam, I still get nervous even 3 years out. I liken it to post traumatic stress. I have learned to cope with it better but it's something that never seems to go away completely. This site always helps me feel stronger.

My daughter had her dr appt today to get the results. The physician assistant came in and told us the scans looked good and we were so excited, the blood work was good as well. The dr then came in and said everything looked good, the scans were clear and the blood work looked good. Then she continued saying that the only thing the radiologist noted was a 4 mm nodule on her lung, which she does not believe is cancerous or even related to the rectal cancer. She said all the rectal cancer is gone. She does, however, want to rescan in three months to make sure there are no changes. My daughter was quite discouraged over this. The dr. then said she could scan her sooner at one month, but then she decided on two just to make sure there is no change. She strongly emphasized again that she does not feel it is cancerous, but probably something environmental as well live near quite a lot of steel mills.

My daughter is having a very difficult time, at this point, feeling positive - she just feels that it wasn't a good report. Her father and I were with her and felt that the dr. was very positive about it being benign.

I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2005 at age 38. Radiation/chemo/surgery/ileostomy/reversal. All is well! I do remember my oncologist looking at my CT scan and being concerned about 3 small spots. My surgeon looked at it and brushed the concern aside and said "at this point if it was cancer you would have many more of these spots." He has seen it all in the rectal cancer world and how things go. My Oncologist was just being cautious which is important. My spots could have come from bronchitis tissue damage many years ago. It's hard to have the shadow of possibilities over her head. I've been there. Sending positive vibes her way!!!

To add....my CT scans for my lungs were a month apart and that's where my surgeon noted that there would show so much more at that point.

I'm so happy for you that you are doing well. The oncologist was not concerned about it - only said she had to check it again just to be clear that nothing goes unwatched. It does cause anxiety for her (and me as well) just waiting with something hanging over our heads, but cancer recovery is clearly a journey and not a destination.

What is the different between colon cancer and rectal cancer?

Are it the same?

The difference is the location and treatment. I was told by the nurse taking care of my daughter that usually no radiation is used in colon as there are too many other organs too close. This is as much as I know. It is all called colorectal cancer.

Hi sickday, rectal is in the rectum not the colon. My brother had rectal and I had colon. He had chemo/radiation I had a resection no chemo/radiation. Karen

hello, my brother has colonrectal cancer stage 3. I dont even know the different between colon and rectal. He got chemo and radiation treatments before his surgery. he is too weak for chemo now. Dr said wait till he is better for the next surgery. It is a long way for him.

I think my brother is depressed. he is mostly in bed. He could eat and drink a little. He did not have appetite at all.

Like i said I have been praying for him, at churches, at chapels and at temples.

Hi All, I hope everyone is improving and treatments are going well or are finished. I am just updating my report on my daughter's condition. She had a followup scan on her lung nodule which was seen in her ct scan following treatment in August. The scan on November 6 showed the nodule was gone. Praise God - what wonderful news this was to our whole family. She will have a colonscopy in December and her one year scans in January. In the meantime she is having a mri and electro magnetic (or something) test for her neuropathy after having seen a neurologist. They want to make sure she has no pinched nerves and it is not caused by bad carpal tunnel syndrome.

Thank you, Ron. Yes, God surely has shown his power in her journey with cancer. Praise God - he has carried her through - with hardly any side effects outside of neuropathy.
