Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Well I've been doing some digging just recently, something to do with going to see the oncologist tomorrow to find out the next steps.
It seems that Colon Cancer and PMP(pseudomyxoma peritonei) are related especially in my case. Colon cancer is usually polyps found in the colon these are normally two types mucinous and signet cell carcinoma's whereas PMP is most commonly a mucinous non malignant tumour, the cross over occurs when mucinous colon carcinoma is not contained within the colon which most commonly occurs when the tumour is in appendix and the appendix ruptures prior to surgery allowing the mucin to invade the abdominal cavity which then develops into PMP type cancer.
The reason for doing the digging was I looking into what my chemo might be and someone mentioned that the KRAS test was not relevant to non-colon cancers ( I think this was in reference to Irish's request for aggressive treatments) so it turns out that the KRAS test is relevant to a number of cancers and should probably be done prior to Irinotecan or Erbitux.

btw ... the KRAS testing that I took for the Erbitux trial was Positive, which meant that I was a candidate for Erbitux ... they have since canceled the stage 3 trial as not working ? (very upsetting )
but, they are still using Erbitux in Stage 4 ... with what results? I don t know. I do know the company, I think it is Lily is working very hard to find a way to deal with the rash side effects. It is OVER a year later and I still have the scarring and reddness all over my chest and some of my face ... I don t know what the other drug does? I ll look it up next.
Not much there ... it keeps the DNA from unwinding ... wow.
