This cancer (and stuff like it) is really a bad mess. So sorry you are going through this. I will keep praying that God will heal you completely a you will have a long healthy life.

Mark, first of all never apoligize for venting, please! I wish we here could do something more than just jot down a few words. But please know that we are all on your side and praying hard for good news.

Mark - You have a very right to feel angry and scared. . .and to vent here! I'll offer some thoughts. Use what is helpful and discard the rest. One, as you say, you don't know for sure what this is. I hope for you it isn't a recurrence. Two, you have to be careful what you read on the internet. In 13 years of navigating cancer, I've learned that what you read on the internet is more fightening and gloomy than the reality. If what I had read about me was true, I would be dead several times over. Three, anyone who has dealt with cancer for a long time will get angry at some point. I often hesitate in what I say here because most of the members are new to cancer. It took me years of dealing with cancer to realize that we are patients to doctors who have hundreds of other patients (no matter how nice they are to us), and we need to be advocates for ourselves. If I had been a better advocate for myself - and insisted, instead of politely asked, for genetic testing - I wouldn't have gotten colon cancer. In the end, though, you can't start second-guessing past decisions or you'll drive yourself crazy. Finally, I don't know where you get that "two year" statistic. If you're getting it from the internet, forget it! I had mets throughout my abdomen from my ovarian cancer thirteen years ago, At that time not a single doctor gave me real hope. I had a brilliant surgeon who removed everything he could see and then had regular chemo, although now they know IPEC works even better. There is also a new and even better procedure called HIPEC (you might want to look that up). The same doctors who gave me no hope 13 years ago now claim I'm cured. So don't give up hope, no matter what this might be!

This whole trip through cancer is a real roller coaster. Try not to project an outcome yet (I know it's hard not to) One of the things about reading the internet for medical info. is to remember as lay people we often lack the actual knowledge and context of some articles. And most statistics are beginning to grow obsolete by the time they hit the general public, it's just the nature of data collection and analysis---- I say this as someone who does market research for a living.

NAT -thank you, my wife and I talked about this last night, and as she said if I had needed IPEC/HIPEC then I would have probably got it as it is an approved treatment under the UK's NHS system though there are only two places in the UK that do it, also given that the only person that even mentioned it was the non-medically trained person (the wife) then there are probably other reasons.

It doesn't mean to say that I'm not going to ask the question because it would be wrong not to.

Anyway initial appointment with the surgeon is 9th October.

So I just got back from seeing my GP (PCP) about something unrelated and chatted to him about the current situation, so when I asked about PMP he showed me the report from the first time which states in black and white that they suspected PMP. It also showed what their current plans are which is basically to open me up check to see if they see anything else other than the one they have seen on scan, if they do then they will not proceed any further.

Whilst not the best news in the world it means I go in with a lot of questions answered beforehand, but the really great thing is my GP will support me all the way to get HIPEC if it is the best treatment for me.

If you can't tell I'm now feeling a lot calmer, thanks for all your support and I'll keep you posted.

Mark, one of my co-workers had this diagnosis 5 years ago, she did heated chemo. She is fine now. I know 2 places in the US, the problem is you are in UK.

Thanks Russian fortunately having found a little more information I've managed to track down a couple of places in the UK that do it and have authorisation from my health insurance company to see one of the consultants that do the procedure
