Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

A year ago I was in the middle of chemo. This year is the "year after" where I keep remembering what I was doing a year ago this time. It's quite a comparison! For example, if now I don't get a parking place near the entrance, I rejoice that I CAN walk the distance with a spring in my step! So, for all you out there going through chemo for the first time, I can tell you a year later you will be a lot better. I know you can't imagine it but it will happen.

Thanks for posting this Kate, I keep telling myself keep your eye on the prize! I am going for treatment number four next week out of twelve, I just can't wait. Of course the one thing I do love is being off of work and enjoying my kids for the summer even though one is home from his freshman year at college and the other just finished 11th grade, I get to spend quality time with them that I have been missing for years because of my work schedule. Me and my oldest son stayed up till like 4 AM last night watching The Golden Girls of all things, and looking up the ages of all of them on the computer, priceless moments.

Kate i agree, this time last year i too was having chemo, i spent most of the time sleeping and everything was an effort, just to go out for a dinner i had to rest all day to summon up enough strength. today my life is back!! i'm not 100% yet but getting there i,m back at work and i can now do all my housework in one day lol (never thought i'd here myself say pleased about that).
I agree with you as well jlcolt, try and enjoy the time you have with your family, i now appreciate even the smallest of things, like sat in the garden watching the birds noticing the small changes as my son changes from a boy into a young man, life is a joy, enjoy it !!!

I totally know what you mean. These last few weeks I am feeling so much better, my CEA has to be normal. Its 2 months since I finished chemo. been so long since I felt this good. This time last year I didnt even know I had cancer yet.
I am having foot surgery on june 30, been long overdue because of the cancer, then Ill be all fixed
Lori, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. how sweet you and your son spent that time. thats what I remember about chemo, the people I love caring for me
