I'm not sure if anyone else has tried this? Or have done this? Or even heard about this before.

So I have been trying to finish my 3-year degree now for almost 6 years now. And it has been a slow process, and it isn't getting any better. I suffer from depression, ADHD, anxiety, social phobia, and possi bility of a learning disability (they are still finalizing my results).... So you could say I've got some cards stacked against me.I'm struggling so much... I've taken so many classes... My pass/ fail rate is almost even.

So I have an idea. I was wondering about writing to my faculty's dean of academic concerns, and in my letter, ask about possibly the university I go too, about possibly waving my last three classes. I know it might seem like a lot, but I've earned it financially,and pretty much have the needed knowledge and/ or experience. Think I would have a chance?

Don't know if this matters, but stress from school was a part of the deciding factor to have myself check into the psych ward at the hospital

i don't know if they would let you, most university's are sort of in it for the money. Maybe talk to a prof you like about it? If they don't let you and you want to do something different, see about doing the courses in an independent study.

I think the best way to "waive" a class is to CLEP out of it (some schools have other simular tests as well)

Most schools consider those worth credits for most (but not all) classes. Classes needing a lab may be a bit more difficult to do that way, but it's still worth asking.

the post about self study is a good point too, most colleges offer online classes (even for ones needing a lab) there is still stress with that, but less social anxiety in my opinion.

The CLEP tends to be a bit cheaper and quicker, but a bit harder since it's all in one exam.

thanks everyone for your responses.... i looked at CLEP, and my university isn't one of the schools that accept it..... i am just wondering when is enough, enough? should I struggle on for another year, when my life is being held back by this degree.

Have you considered a transfer to an online college that does accept clep and can let you wrap it up one class at a time in a slightly more relaxed enviroment?

That's a good idea... I'm just worried if an online would accept me if I did try to transfer - my transcript is a disaster. Also I always lose track of online classes. Because I find their is nothing tangable for me to remind myself about it.

I take all online classes. If you would get accepted, which I think you should really apply to at least see, then most online courses offer a complete course schedule before the quarter/semester even begins. I print off that schedule and highlight all the important things so that I can check it every day and see what I have due that day and what is coming up. It really helps me stay on track because it can be hard to motivate yourself and keep going through online classes.

You should be able to transfer. I'd ask a few colleges which they'd take and take the ones that offers the best offer. Remember to make sure it is regionally accredited though. DETC is more self paced but dosn't qualify for pell grants and less respected by employers.

Most will accept classes on a class by class basis for anything C or better and start you with a fresh GPA. Credits tend to transfer and get a clean wash on the GPA part.

For classes under a C you can often get credit by testing out on them. Some do CLEP others have school specific tests, but same idea.

If you do want self paced detc is ok and still reconized by the US dept of education, but considered a "lower" accrediting than regional.

That being said, I used a DETC degree to get into an ABA approved lawschool, and while in the Army I saw guys get promoted with it too. So it does have value.

It is best to look into the pros and cons of ALL options. DETC schools tend to be the most generous on transfer credits too I have noticed, I have seen some even accept D's as transfers.
