Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
Today, I know that my recovery program gives me the wisdom to know what I can change (my own attitudes and perceptions) and what I cannot change (other people, their addictions and unhealthy behaviors). I know today that my codependency, if untreated, will seduce me into staying in harmful situations too long. Loving myself allows me to "quit" harmful experiences before they can damage me. I am proud today of my ability to say "I quit" when its in my best interests to do so.
thank you for this reminder of my ability to make "u" turns today!
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
For me, the poem's message isn't complex. It's pretty simple. It just means not quit if you have bumps in the road. Sometimes it's hard to make changes or stand up for yourself; whether you're finding it hard to get out of a bad marriage or relationship, or you're finding it hard to maintain boundaries or change your life.....for me it means, don't quit at whatever your dreams/goals are....just persevere.
Thanks again!!!
I loved also the way I see my progress in recovery, from using the notion of perseverance to keep me in a dangerous place, to the use of perseverance to keep me in a marriage in which I still have hope and see progress.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts and to you, Maggie, for being a catalyst for discussion with your post.
