After a few drinks she'll tell you. She's probably lonely, she's probably unhappy. It may take a bit to tell you what's wrong.
And here's the thing (speaking from my position) - I carried a lot of guilt in my marriage because I had anxiety and didn't know it. I desperately needed to tell my husband stuff about me, and have him hear it and say it was okay. But from his point of view he considered any word I spoke to be a complaint about him personally. And he blocked everything. He would not ever let me tell him what was wrong.
I could never show him I wasn't mad at him, he sort of grabbed that hat and jammed it on his head so fast it wasn't funy. He certaily never took me out to diner or gave me any reason to believe ever that I would be heard without complaint or resentment.... so I remained silent, distraught, anxious, like a second class citizen till the last year of our marriage, when I became suicidal, and then I became allergic to a lot of things.
I wish I could have the marriage back. I was very fond of him. I feel broken alone. Still broken after 7 yrs. I've done a lot for myself personallly that would not have happened together with him, but I do wish I could be part of a marriage again, and I did love him. I just really didn't (and on the facts still don't) think he loved me at all.
anyway Take her out to dinner. Be the bigger man. Even if all you can pay for is fish and chips by the lake, do it. Time alone together with her. Some good time maybe. Take her out bumper car driving. Or go-karting. Or quad bike riding. Heck I love quad bike riding.
Get some reconnect.
:)
I get heaps of interaction, and when I come home I need to unwind, I can't absorb. When my daughter was home, she would chatter to me and I couldn't absorb a word. I didn't want to hurt her feelings or shut her up, she was my baby - but if she'd been someone else I might have just tried to go hide. ? If I'd had to reply at all, that would have been hard. If I had had to give emotionally to someone who needed me emotionally? Well, i rescued a dog for a while and I sent it on to the SPCA because it was too needy.
She can't fill you. Maybe you can change your job in some way so that you can be more full yourself when she gets home? You need to find your own social life, somehow, and be her equal. Right now you are in a subordinate role with her. That's why you're needy. It's not your personality; it's your environment and dynamic structure.
Look at where everyone's placed on the chess board of life. It sticks out like dogs bollocks. :)
