Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
For me it is because when I am active in my addiction I am weak...and I try to make everyone else happy to relieve my shame and guilt from being messed up.
Co-dependcy...when I'm active makes me feel needed and wanted.
So, yea....I also think people in abusive relationships become co-dependent, which was my experience.
Welcome...
Another way to think about it is that codependency is another form of addiction... giving people what they want in order to feel the "high' of their positive reaction is itself a form of addiction.
We have a few fairly-active members here, each with a different perspective. I hope you find some useful insights and are willing to share some of your own.
One thing to do here is do not get tooooo personal with others and do not take things too personal either.
No one here is a professional Therapist and even if anyone is a pro then we are all just giving our opinions and perspectives and we each or all can be completely wrong or worse.
You being aware of the codependency and being a recovering addict means that you have already crossed over the most difficult hurdles and everything past that is so much easier.
I find the treatment for codependency to be so interesting and so empowering that it can be a lot of fun to do when we do it right.
Keep coming back, as the more the merrier.
