What you describe is called hormones.
They are super powerful chemicals in your body driving you onward.
It is not really an addiction but it works the same way as being addicted.
All people start out from puberty having that old powerful call of nature in our bodies, and we all either learn to control our passions or else our passions with control us.
In one sentence you said it perfectly: " my body is telling me to go to him but my mind is telling me that hell reject me "
It really is your body chemicals (hormones and estrogen) trying to control your life.
You being 23 means you are at your healthiest and most aggressive and strongest body demands and it is hard to control.
You are not in love with that man - you are just in heat.
This is my opinion - based on my study and experience - and hoping to help and to answer your questions.
I believe that you've become attached to someone, and you feel the need to be close to that man. However, it has been over a month that you have last talked to him. I would take that as a good sign that you're progression that you're wanting to go. Although it doesn't seem that way, you're in the right direction to become independent. Codependency is not fun, but you're in the right direction.
In fact the word HORNY comes (slang) from the word hormonal.
One time about 30 years ago and I was just arrived at a familiar Bar and a Lady I knew was there so I sat down beside her, and at that time I said to myself that I do not like her and the sooner that I get away from her the better. So then after drinking about 3 or 4 beers later and I was asking that same Lady to come home with me - and then my memory came back to me and hit me hard that I remembered and I knew that I did not like this woman and here I was trying to love her. So I had to force myself to stop drinking and to leave that Bar before I did some thing crazy. And after that I never ever forgot again that my body had an unwanted control and power over myself.
As such I do not see beer or alcohol as acting like a hormone - certainly not - but the alcohol relaxes our mind and so our mental resistance goes down.
I agree that this is not the whole picture - but it is a factor - IMO.
There's nothing really wrong with feelings of sexual craving or lonliness - except for the aftermath you will have to deal with when you give into them.
Exercise helped very much to bridge the "craziness" of lonliness and sexual craving. Seriously.
