Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
It seems to me that codependency and enabling can be related. Maybe they do not always go hand-in-hand, but they have some codependent behaviors are enabling behaviors.
If you are just getting to know about codependency, it may help you to read "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie or "Facing Codependence" by Pia Mellody. Those books can give you a better sense of what it is. (side note: apparently there is some sort of correlation between codependency and people named Melody).
Along with this group, you might also find it useful to have a look at the Families & Friends of Addicts group here on DS, read through some posts there and see if you can find some answers there too. You might find something helpful there as well? I think you will find some people there who are in very similar situations to you and it is always helpful to hear how other people deal with a situation, maybe get some places to start.
I hope you find some help and comfort in reading posts and reaching out. It is tough stuff but we can learn about things like boundaries and healthy relationships and codependency and we can start to make some good changes in our lives. Good luck to you and take care of yourself :)
