Going against culture = how so? Could you be more specific?

I understand. I had to leave the country for a place where I feel comfortable and values are similar to mine. What helped me to cope was turning off the television for good. It is not reality, or true. Find at least one friend who feels the same way, if you want to talk, write me. I last visited the U.S, in May and was appalled by the racism I encountered. Be true to yourself, acceptance of who we are gives us the courage to take a different path. Because the majority of people are living an illusion, does not mean that you have to.

U.S. culture is very materialistic. I agree, turn off TV entertainment shows like Extra and ET Insider. They always piss me off. Make us Americans have our priorities completely in the wrong place (being rich and beautiful and having as much wild, exciting sex as possible).

L.A. is a town of fakery, of illusion, and of great scrutiny. If a person BREATHES wrong or picks their nose, it's all over the tabloids. Most Americans can't live that way, even if we were as talented as some of those actors. And even actors choose to live elsewhere. Harrison Ford, Andie McDowell and Meg Ryan live in Wyoming. Russell Crowe lives in Australia. Johnny Depp lives in France. It's cheaper than Beverly Hills, and they can get away from the hoopla and nonsense that is Hollywood (or Holly-weird) and enjoy some quiet respite between projects.

Follow the beat of your own drum, even if that drum beats very slowly and quietly. Go where you find peace, then begin talking with others there. They're most certain to share your viewpoint if they're there in that quiet place as well.

Did I mention cellulite was picked on a couple nights ago on one of those tabloid shows? God forbid if a woman eats a slice of pizza, or the sun happens to shine down on some patch of skin that is not entirely smooth, it's all over the tabloids. Tabloid publishers and producers are the bottom-feeders of the entertainment industry. They have no talent of their own, so they have to pick on others who do.

And, frankly, I think we value our entertainers (and politicians) a bit too highly in this country. We should be valuing educators, scientists who are uncovering cures for life-threatening diseases, and spiritual healers. We could learn a thing or two from the East.

If you watch any of these shows, as I sometimes do, simply for amusement, it's understandable why you feel inadequate. So do I. When it gets you down, turn that crap off.

Again, Pam, follow the beat of your own drum and find your own way. Maybe you're not ready for a relationship right now. Everyone tries to control us, parents, lovers, politicians, religious types, you name it. Got to find your own path. Tune out everybody and just sleep. Sleep is the only time when I'm truly in touch with God.
