I just need to vent my dad has been on hospice about 2 months he has cancer and other sicknesses. So I'm his caregiver 24/7 or when he needs me to cope with grieving I drink not to feel, along this time I met a woman she's 24 and EMT, of course, I know how to pick em huh? She rejects me, ignores me but there I go chasing her. I and my counselor came to the agreement that I have abandonment issues, codependency, love addiction, obsession since I come from an alcoholic family line. With my dad dying I am an emotional wreck I feel lonely, angry, alone but mostly I wish I could stop contacting this woman why do I keep doing these things? I know better I'm wrestling back and forth

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Meetings. 12 step groups do deal with grief too.
There is lots of grieving in the recovery process.
I am glad you are in therapy and you should Read
up on codependency or watch videos on Youtube.
Its a very deep issue and most of us come From the
same types of homes. Dysfunctional and/or abusive
Homes. We did not get our developmental needs met
As a child. We have no idea we matter or are enough.
It takes retraining and reparenting ourselves.
Now in adulthood and we have poor coping Skills and
are often emotionally immature and some people Are
Emotionally stunted. Your drinking won't help you Only
cause you more problems and issues.
I am sorry for your Dad's poor health and that he is dying,
HUGS
An alcoholic home it is better than CODA if Dealing
with those issues.
The closest Coda for Me is like 60+ miles away. Coda
does have a splinter Group called its SLAA sex/love
addiction.
Check with the hospice team there are usually Grief
groups. I went to divorce care and lots of Grief support
there its very important when grieving. HUGS
Like you I began to numb the pain from that with alcohol. It wasn't until I went through an outpatient treatment program that I was treated for the ptsd that triggered my addiction. One of the things I learned was the importance of self love. If I can't love myself then I begin looking for it in the outside world but unfortunately, that is not the kind of love that could ever make me happy and at peace.
That love that comes from within, is not a love of this world, it is a spiritual that has always been there but I put blocks in the way such as negative emotions, like anger, jealousy, hate, envy, etc, etc.. These prevented me from connecting with that love. Now I have a Love and contentment, I never thought possible. I am happier now then I have ever been but I need to periodically let go of past judgements as they arise. This is the key.
I also learned that there is no death. We are eternal spiritual beings who just walk around dressed in different bodies that's all, but I understand how difficult it is watching a loved one slowly slip away. Your being there and assisting him will help him into the afterlife and beyond and he is deeply appreciative!
God Bless
years and a parent dies and they go back to Drinking /
drugging again. They still have Loads of unresolved
Issues, resentments and anger. It could be the
Dry parent that did not protect you even.
This stuff is deep and its layer upon layer. Its the
peeling of an onion and it takes tons of Hard inner
work to get at your inner core. I have been in alanon,
Therapy and attended divorce care since 2012 and
I am barely scratching the surface of my own
codependency issues.
My ex and i come from the same types of background
abuse, Dysfunction, narcissism, alcoholism and codependency
I married what i knew which is what usually will happen
Unless you heal yourself first, HUGS
