Do. Just Keep showing up and educate
Yourself like you are doing. Time Takes
time.
I know i sound like a broken record. Look
how far you have come already. You are
Skipping and jumping ahead.
I call it retraining and reparenting. We
Have to learn how to change us. Stop
The judging controlling fixing enabling.
In alanon we talk about likening it to
A peeling of a onion, layer by layer
comes Off. Thats how it was with me.
There is no fast way to the finish line
Unless you are only talking the talk and
Don't Really walk the walk. Thats the
Hard part.
Many of us are just alike from our family
And upbringing. Now we have to change
Heal and grow from that immature ego
Self. That ego got us thru our childhood
Now we need to learn how to be An
emotionally Mature adult.
Being an emotionally mature adult sucks. Lol.
I do appreciate the comment Miranda and all the encouragement you’ve given me. I’ll do what I can (or realistically, what I feel like.)
I also had another realization - My partner is kind of the mirror image of my judgemental wounded pride. I don’t want to go into his story but we bonded over how other people “didn’t get it” like we did. I never did like the whole codependents fall for narcissists because it came across as we being helpless victims to their destructive natures that wanted to crush us. That’s not the case with my relationships. I added to the negativity as much as he did. I judged along with him, brought in gossip of how others were less, looked for critical remarks to make us to bond, etc. I see how I enabled now, and was also a perpetrator in my own right.
What recovery is all about. Self
focusing And fixing us and not
Beating ourselves up in the process.
We did not get like this overnight.
Many of us are perfectionists that
Needs to stop so does being self
Critical.
You need loads of self compassion
And acceptance Of your own humanity
As well as respecting others. We are
All Imperfect humans.
Learning our lessons is how we learn
Often its baby stepping forward.
Thanks Urbangardener. I’ll keep on digging and being honest, though I’m feeling sad and empty at the moment. I’m not sure how to fix this or if fixing it will make me happier. Actually I know it will. At least it help me feel more solid when it comes to pushing for a resolution with this relationship. I want a resolution NOW but I’m still such a confused mess that I know I have more healing to do before I even come close to having an honest conversation with him. It’s hard enough being honest with myself.
You’re so right about the blaming thing. I do feel like those people took something from me, like good fortune was supposed to mine but they stole or took it from me. Which they didn’t. I’ll have to Albert Ellis the moon out of that one.
Then i’ll probably Albert Ellis the moon out of my irrational belief “I ended up with nothing.” Lol. Funny how irrational we get, but I’ll keep working on it. Thanks for for your encouragement.
