I remember was I was very young and found out that Santa Claus was a lie and it struck me hard that I was betrayed by everyone around me that I trusted.
This is one of my oldest (or youngest) memories which remain very distinct and clear.
I looked up to my parents and to my brothers and sisters and to everyone and so I found out that everyone that I loved was lying to me and I felt like such a fool.
And of course I realized that I too was expected to play along with the lies, because we got Christmas presents and big dinner and happy music so that I was expected to play along with the lies as if they were true and so I did.
Later they tried to tell me about some magical baby born in a manger who did miracles and so I knew that I was to play along with this lie too but this time I was not to be fooled by the lies and my faith was damaged by it.
It was a traumatic time for me to be betrayed by everyone I cared for, which I still feel the effects today.
The commandment says = Thou shalt not bear false witness.
The commandment does NOT say that we can give a false witness to children as they do not count where it comes to lies.
My understanding is that young children will be happy and joyful if we tell them the truth, and the children are happy with virtually anything, as they like the big party and the presents even if you tell them that the rejoicing is from the spaghetti monster. Children want to believe because they trust.
The Christmas lies do not help the children in any way, as the lies are just for the adults who find it to be fun to fool children.
I truly feel pain for little children as they are so trusting and so serious as children always are, and so they too will feel the sting of lies from their own loved ones and nothing I can do to stop that.
See - even if I do tell them the truth then the sting of lies is already there and done.
Can not anyone see what this original lie does to the faith of each person? the child is a person being fed lies.
The story of Jesus is not a lie but that truth gets lost in the Christmas lies, because the people are brainwashed to play along with Jesus too as if that too is another lie and nobody wants to get fooled again.
This brainwashing is a widespread reality done to young vulnerable children who internalize the whole thing.

Now when people go to a Church then they have that same brainwashing - to play along with the lies but we all remember that we must not get fooled by the lies.
As such people have no real faith, and they have shallow religious beliefs, and superficial churches where the people have fun and games but no truth.
Both the lies and lying have the tendency to grow and grow so that the lies become a part of the human mentality, and it produces immature adults - it interferes with the proper growth.

It's also instilling that you should be good just to get material possessions, instead of doing it out of a moral conscience.

I read your website blog and yes I do like what you say.
It seems to me that the Santa Claus lie is very similar to the original sin because it is really the original lie for many children, and therefore it is the original (first) true act of codependency by the children learning how to protect the lies that we were taught.
After that then the codependency already has deep roots for the rest of their life, and as adults the same brainwashing is taught to the next generation.
Whatever happened to condemning lies and viewing lying as wrong? as if it is okay to tell lies to children because the adults think that is so much fun to do.
I see it as poison being passed along as harmless when really it is severely hurtful to every person involved.
I just don't like Santa or EB or Tooth Fairy because they only result in inflated expectations in life... and then disappointment when the myth is busted.
I am proud to be Christian, but ashamed of our Churches!
If we go by the Bible then the original sin (as it is called) happened when the "Serpent" told a lie to Eve who then passed the lie onward to Adam and thereby to all of humanity.

So if some one is putting their faith into Santa Clause then yes that would be putting their faith in a lie.
THEN as I said in the opening comment is that after discovering that to be a lie THEN the children are told about the true story of Jesus and so the children view this story as another lie (or another trick) so we play along and thereby it undermines our faith.
That is what happened to me - when I found out that my own loving family had lied and tricked me about Santa Clause then I was not going to be fooled again with their story about some miracle baby Jesus in a manger.
So the original lie(s) cause a brainwashing which thereby damages the truth which thereby damages our faith.
And that is very similar to codependency because it brainwashes the children into protecting the lies in their family.
It took me many years of internal healing before I could start my own real (realistic) faith in God as I had to unlearn my old brainwashing programming.
Teaching lies to young children is putting a huge burden around their neck which is super hard to ever get rid of that handicap, and it is especially important where it comes to our religion and our spirituality which each person truly need to mature in a healthy way.
I would say that the vast majority of humanity has their faith based on many assorted lies, but the people play along with the lies just as we were taught to do as children.
And that brainwashing is a big part of the codependency too.
Moreso irrational fear. It was as if the Communists took advantage of our Society after we became too comfortable and obsessed with convenience during the 1950's. As a result, America has become Nihilist and Utopian and that the Churches have committed Hara Kiri.
What messages are we sending to our Children in relation towards our own faith? We need to let the light of Christ transcend the Talking Heads who govern us and restore the traditional values our Forefathers fought for.
Proud to be Christian, but ashamed of our Churches!
Yes, lies are the Devil's work.
Santa can be a way to actually TEACH kids about discerning the "truth" about issues. Does it make sense that a man could go around and give toys to all the good little boys and girls in the entire world in one night?
But then again, some people believe and do very strange things and justify them in the name of their faith.
I say, look at your religious text as a guide book on how to live life, and you you'll find a lot more similarities than differences.
But as for our "traditional values," I thought our forefather's were actually pretty cutting edge for the time... They were the ones BREAKING from tradition, were they not?
I personally want to keep a separation of Church and State.
