Thank you for my friend!
Be very careful CODA.....I felt the same way you did - very empowered by my choice....didn't care about the money anymore and I was making 90K on a High School diploma for 19 years there! I KNOW that is why they were pushing me out - high class biotech...only wanted the college elite.
I was so afraid of what "mistake" I walk into the next day...slipped into depression...wanted to drink for the last 7 years of my sobriety because they put me in this new role to drive me out 7 years ago....I caved finally.
I'm telling you to be careful because you mentioned drinking. After I quit I was so elated...proud of myself...but then realizing ALTHOUGH THE CHOICE was MINE....for ME...being at home was a VERY BAD THING. I started not being able to sleep.
So I thought...well a 6 pack won't harm me after 8 years of not drinking...IT ALMOST KILLED ME this year....all I did this year was sit at home...drink....then go into withdrawal..manage 2 weeks at a time...and then repeat this cycle.
I am now diagnosed with Major Depression...I have never NOT been able to go shopping...go out to eat....throw money at people...this is killing me.
Just don't drink....it becomes very powerful...being bored...after working and being productive for so many years. I still say good for me that I quit thou....because I was dying there anyway. And although money helps...that job just wasn't worth it.
Its very brave to do what you did...I know because I did it too...some of my family (my parents) have turned their back on me because apparantely my worth was defined by my job..they think I made a stupid choice...they didn't have to walk in there everyday.
Just be careful....alcohol is sneaky...and downtime is bad....are you planning on finding another role? I just hope the depression does not kick in like it did for me...and I feel unable to search for a role now.
You may be interested in a book called "In the Company of Women". I see at least one of the people giving you a hard time was another female. I found this book to be helpful to me, in trying to understand something that happened in my own workplace.
Best of luck to you. I am sure that losing you will be hard for them. Even if you think you were being pushed out, I am sure you were a dedicated worker and they are regretting it now. Now you have the opportunity to do whatever it is that you've been putting off, for the sake of that job.
I have often thought about you in the last couple of weeks and wondered how the job was going. I am glad you quit. Its not worth throwing away all that hard work for money. There are plenty of opportunities for exceptional workers like yourself.
You are spot on. The universe will look after you. You are special and unique and the universe will guide you along your path. Always remember that you have been looked after before and this time is no different.
Blast the tunes out and put your feet up for a few days!

Ok i am getting carried away now. But it my opinion that is a pretty epic I just quit my job sound track!!!
I KNOW, that can be scary, but I (actually we all) know that you will be ok! You deserve so much more than that kind of work environment! You have so much to offer people, so much to offer us here, and I can only imagine how awesome you are in the workplace!
I truly am happy for you. You will find another position when the time is right. Are you planning to look right away or take some time off? I personally would take maybe one week off before sending my resume out, just collect my thoughts and of course work on that resume :)
BTW, the very act of making that choice for yourself is a great accomplishment all on its own. We all know how difficult it can be to do what's right for US. That is awesome and something for all of us to look up to!
Sending you many many hugs!!!!
I do appreciate it, it was a scary jump out of the comfort zone....of course the brain has been on Mach speed going WTF!!!....but it just needs to unwind the last 3.5 years of tapes and mantra's I have bought into as to why i couldn't leave this job....all in the name of $$.
I have fared thru far worse things in life.....I can survive ANYTHING that is thrown at me as long as I am 6 feet above ground, and have my head on my shoulders, I am a smart and resourceful cookie ;)
I am scared poop-less, but in a "future is so bright" kind of way. Like ok so now I have the whole world in front of me, what now?? There is a huge part of me that is like whoa...I don't have to travel for work anymore, i can't believe it!! I have to literally pinch myself to say, you can just BE.HERE.NOW. (Ram Dass anyone??)
I would say the song right now @whativgot is " New Leaf" by Bad Religion. My inner punk rocker is definitely feeling happy right now....got her boots on and all! Mosh pit anyone?? HAHAHA (Ram Dass to Punk Rock....yes I am that dynamic ya'll)
Anyway, I appreciate all of you cheering me on again, I feel so grateful for each of you baring witness to my journey and just being there along the way! MEANS THE WORLD TO ME!!
I take it HR was useless? That's been my story...
Hows the job hunt going?
