A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. We are all entirely lovable, we were born that way! The trick is not letting our egos get in the way. When I am frightened (an ego-based emotion), I am not in a loving state, my heart has battened down the hatches. Anger arises from fear, as does arrogance.
A friend told me everything can be broken down into states of either expansion or contraction. In an expansive state we are open, giving, receptive, joyful, willing to try new things, boundless in our capacity of love. Contractive states are closed-off, fearful, defensive. Sometimes when I am feeling overwhelming anxiety, I visualize myself in an expansive state, boundless love flowing inexhaustibly from my heart to all that is around me and my heart being flooded with love from the universe. It helps a lot when I can remember to do it, so thanks for reminding me!
I like to imagine the new love growing inside me fusing with Gods love which i see as beautiful shining light all around me and i allow myself to be filled up with Gods love. I haven't done this mediatation for a while so thanks for the reminder. Vee
