Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
Oh man, it was going to happen. My Dawkins/Hitchens-loving atheist self with a million religious hang-ups who sneered at anything "spiritual" being told she needed to look into a higher power in order to heal...
"As long as I stay away from anything that talks about vibrational frequency because that is too tacky," I said to myself.
Well, CODA, Albert Ellis, Stoic philosophy, Taoism, with some dabbling into Buddhism to understand detachment, and then I discovered shadow work around the same time Courage to Change told me to look into my resentments. Oh, I cried for an entire day. I didn't even know I had that many tears in my body. Now I understand people who say our bodies are 80% water. I thought I wrung myself dry, but nope, somehow, my body found more resevoirs of tears.
Since then, something shifted. I discovered the laws of attraction, which I'm treating like the other things that helped me - I take what resonates with me and leave the rest, but yes, now I'm looking up a philosophy/healing/quackery that talks about vibrational frequency. I feel like the universe is laughing but I can laugh with it. Whatever works.
Anyways, shadow work / law of attraction has helped me with a lot of guilt I've been carrying around, and forgiving the parts of me that I was ashamed off and tried to get rid of. I thought healing codependency was about fixing me, but I know realize it was about accepting myself. I didn't realize how much of myself I rejected. I'm still in the process of forgiving and removing judgements of myself. It's going to be a long process, but for the first time in a long time, I don't hate myself and I don't see myself as guilty and unworthy and a piece of crap.
I also realize that the universe is one of abundance and it wants to lavish abundance upon us. I used to think I wasn't deserving of anything. I had so much trouble taking and worked myself silly to feel worthy of breadcrumbs, while resenting others who took like they were entitled to things like happiness, love, and family. I realized that the universe wanted to give me those things too, but I didn't feel worthy so I rejected things, asking for crumbs and trying my hardest to give ten times more if I ever took anything. Despite my rejecting what the universe wanted to give me, the universe still managed to flood me with abundance. I have so people who would drop everything to help me out. I've been to most of the continents and experienced an amazing train ride up North and seen the Northern Lights. I've experienced all kinds of love and kindness and human brilliance. That's just the tip of the iceberg of the wonderful gifts the universe has given me, and I got all those treasure when I was rejecting and feeling like I had no right to take and enjoy.
Now imagine what abundance the universe will give when I stop rejecting and realize that I don't have to be worthy to receive. I'm rather scared of the potential now. To think I was so depressed and angry a week or two ago because I felt like other people had families and love and I felt like I had nothing. I realize that first I have a lot, and second, the universe wants to give me more. I just keep rejecting it. I know I'm going to feel resentment and jealousy in the future, but right now, I'm not feeling any resentment or jealousy. I'm feeling anticipation and gratitude that the universe is looking out for me, and it wants to give me love, peace, and awesome things. If not in external ways, then within me. Either way, I know it wants me to be happy and to take freely whatever joys it offers.
I'm still going to continue to work on healing because I know from experience these good feelings don't last if one doesn't keep working on them. This is a lifelong process, and I'm always going to struggle with negative thought patterns, so I'm keep on going to meetings and building a relationship with HP. But I felt some weird urge to let you all know that the universe is looking out for you, and it wants to give you abundance, and it's okay to take from it.

I am on a spiritual path, which almost feels like a betrayal to myself a year ago when I was a staunch atheist who thought spiritual things were stupid and people needed a higher power were weak. You’re right a lot of time our attitude needs adjustment.
I’m more humbled now. Hoping to stay on this path. I’m afraid my judgemental so-called logical self will ridicule my newfound “new age flakiness” into shame. Just have to stay humble. BIG HUGS to you. Lots of love and light.

HUMILITY
"True humility is the willingness to seek and do God's will with our best effort." BRB p. 223
In ACA, we move from wanting and being willing to actually finding the passion that begins our journey into recovery. We look for that passion because without it we merely talk recovery, we do not live it.
We look past our desire to heal ourselves and we develop the humility needed to seek our Higher Power's will for us. With that humility, we surrender ourselves to the spiritual seed that's blossoming inside of us. We move toward that essence, and the closer we get, the more in touch we are with our own spiritual being. We begin to live in the present.
And in that now, we see the world differently. We notice the spiritual essence in others and the beauty around us. We begin to feel the peace. We begin to shed our past, including the person we thought we were, and we are at peace with the stillness. Further down the path, we realize that the stillness is our Higher Power working inside us.
On this day I seek the humility needed to accept my Higher Power's will, knowing that it is the basis for my journey to recovery. The miracle of ACA has begun.
