Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. In codependency a lot of people will act as if they are angry when they are not really angry at all.
As like one feels fear so they strike out as if angry when it is really just fear striking out.
A person being guilty will often pretend to be angry as a way to cover up their guilt.
People in pain will act angry, and acting angry gives people a feeling of power when they are really feeling powerless.
The feeling of anger is actually far different than being angry, because when a healthy person feels anger then they will do some thing about the anger instead of acting out.
As like if one gets threatened or assaulted by another person, then the healthy person might calmly seek to call the police instead of angrily fighting back.
Or "turn the other cheek" (as the saying goes) instead of responding with an angry outburst.
Peace.
Part of his anger stems from his lack of confidence in being able to taker care of himself. IT is classic hostile dependency. The upshot of my point is that I don't care to be his target anymore and I refuse to continue to enable his sense of entitlement.
MY son depends on his anger to get what he wants.
He did his "MY Bad." I would yell......
When I took the therapist advice and remained calm, not only did I learn to control my anger, my dysfunctional husband didn't understand why I whispered instead of yelling. I had changed the dance we had been doing.
Also to me....
If someone changes the dance and doesn't react to anger, it sometimes make the anger mute.
