IMHO.... I think it stirs a memory of what caused the pain in the first place. I think that's why the pain is so emotionally connected.
I feel for you Lanie!
Take care!

What can you do when this flares up?
I think SSE might be right when she says it s stirring memories of the original incident, thus the emotional pan...
Glad you posted here. We care! We want to be here for you here.
I went to bed for many hours...it's the only thing that helps really - that and ice and water. I didn't want to take the "big gun" meds cause they make me sick.
The crying seems to be both the level of pain and something in my brain. Not sure that it's memories - I think there's actually some swelling in my brain, or maybe something chemical going on.
A little bit more info...every month...during "that time of the month" I consistently get very bad head swelling episodes. I was thinking this month I was finally going to get away scot free! But, today, sheesh, there it is again. So I think it's got to be something hormonal and of course hormones are from the brain.
It's definitely frustrating. I was just standing in a store shopping when -wham-.
So I spent the rest of the day in bed. The swelling has gone down now, but isn't totally gone. And, of course, I lost the ability to do the things I had planned today.
And I get tired of telling people about it. I feel like I'm just saying the same thing over & over again (Because, of course, I am.)
Love ya girlfriend!
Thanks, Rae. I feel like I have to spread my complaining around, essentially, cause I fear annoying people, you know?
And I asked her about what you mentioned, SSE.
She explained that what is happening is that when I get that sudden onset of pain, the heavy emotion is from my lack of control over what is happening. Just like how I felt when I was injured and just like my prior trauma. It's that same feeling of helplessness, because I can't control the pain nor could I control those things.
That was helpful to understand. She also said there's a physiological piece with the intensity of the pain.
The pain finally broke a few hours ago, which is such a relief. Hopefully, a good night of sleep and I'll be feeling good tomorrow.
I'm sorry for all your horrid complications. (And the assainity of the medical profession).
