Hi, all
I know that there are few medications for liver disease.,but after a camera scan I was prescribed a proton pump inhibitor, I also take an antidepressant and may have to take metaformin as I am diabetic
On may last visit the GP said older diabetic patients are often prescribed statins, even thought my cholesterol seems ok as is my blood pressure.
Its alarming to see all the pills and tablets that can be prescribed.
The doctor once asked me if I thought that these medications were doing me any good.
All I could say was "I Fckin Hope So"

Proton pump inhibitors (or "PPI"s) are a group of drugs whose main action is a pronounced and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid production. They are the most potent inhibitors of acid secretion available today. The group followed and has largely superseded another group of pharmaceuticals with similar effects, but different mode-of-action, called H2-receptor antagonists. Maybe all that acid was making me a bit Scotty, Hence the antidepressants.
The GP asked me how long I should take them for, can you believe this.
The reason that I had the laroscopy was to check for varicies thankfully non were found. but some red spots were pre gastric ulcer sign's hence the PPI's
I do wish I had the benefit of your research at the time, I could then have mentioned that maybe those derivitive baby's would be a more effective tab to take!
