I've been lurking for the past few days. I was hospitalized 8 days ago with sudden ascites and severe anemia and didn't have a clue. I'd been tired, brusing, and battling w hair loss and kept taking vitamins. I'm a teacher who occasionally drinks wine. I screened positive for hep c.
I've gone to several discussion boards and found this to be the most inspirational and informative. Sooo in spite of your recent messy blogger, I chose to join here. There seemed to be less talk of fear and more positive messages. I hope you all will hang in there....
I've lost down to 114 lbs on the sodium restricted diet and diuretics. My Medes score was 6, but I'm going to meet w the transplant hospital anyway. I rec'd blood transfusions, MRI, etc. I'm scheduled for endo, colonoscpy, and who knows what else.
I'm a passionate person, but my post probly sounds bland. I think Nadolol zones me out. lol! Just dealing w the shock, meds, and lifestyle changes. Whattamess!
Hope to interact w some of you who have wisdom and experience.

Glad you joined, if you have questions - ask away. It is all rather scary at first. You don't mention whether your hep c is being treated....

Dr. did say he didn't think my low weight n anemia would support treatment at this time, but he would wait on biopsy to see.

You are definitely not alone:-) Feel free to share concerns, questions, and information. While we are not doctors, we all are trying our best to make each day a good day and live the best we can. It is good that you are being proactive about your health! Seek Craig's posts on nutrition - he has a wealth of info to share! Go to a nutritionist as soon as you can and ask her/him about upping your protein.

You should go back and read all of the threads on this board, that will keep you busy and there is a TON of information. Also, don't forget to read Craig's board. :)
If it makes you feel any better, I weighed 99 lbs. when I got out of the hospital (and some of that was still ascites). Once my stomach could take it again I ate anything I wanted to for eight months. Through the holidays, too! Everything has its silver lining...
Try not to worry about the endo and colonoscopies. I've had both (the endo several times), and it's really not so bad if you don't fight it. It is a huge lifestyle change, isn't it? The fatigue itself is life-changing. But you will adapt. Most of us here know what it's like so remember you're never alone.
