Hello - I am new to this forum and I am looking for any and all information on how to manage through the stages of cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse over many many years.
I had varacies and are under the care of a pcp and a gastro doc, and take daily meds and vitamins as prescribed, but I find the doctors are very cryptic in offering any direct prognosis. From reading this site I now have a better idea as to why they can't pinpoint expectancy etc.
I have not received a stage diagnosis, but after reading some of the warning signs, of which I have, namely, dark urine, lower back pain, lethargy, male breast growth, just plain tired and scared that I am on god's short list.
I am depressed and find myself desperate with nowhere to turn or anyone to talk to, everyone's response is stop drinking. Well, easier said than done. I feel this last trip off the wagon may have really affected me with the incredibly dark urine color. I drink plenty of water and only notice this condition when I wake up since I go all night without water. But this last round scared me.
I am here for support of others, to learn more about nutrition, treatments, and for support from others in this same situation.
I have two high school age boys and fear that I will not be around to see them finish their high school years.
Reading some of these websites and identifying with and experiencing many of the final stage conditions, I am hoping I can get a shot of turning this into a battle that I can try to win.

I don't normally talk this boldly on this sight, but you have two sons that need their father, a sober father. And if you die, I want you to spend eternity in Heaven.
Getting off and staying off the alcohol CAN begin improvement for you, so get the help you need and DO it. I'm praying. Marilyn
First of all I commend you for seeking help and realizing that Cirrhosis is no joking matter and requires serious attention in order to defeat it! Drinking alcohol could be the ultimate deciding factor on whether you you live or die. It is critical to your life that you do everything in your power to give up drinking and live your life as healthy as you can to attempt to reverse the damage you have done over the years. There are many people on this forum who have survived this disease and you can too but you will definately have to stop drinking. There is no other way. I pray that you find peace on your journey towards sobriety and wellbeing. Please know that there is hope and this does not have to be a death sentence but you do have to make choices now. I pray that you choose life and that you spend many more years enjoying it with your sons! God Bless you!
My partner has just been newly diagnosed but is significantly advanced and has had two vatical bleeds and severe acites. He has finally stopped drinking and I am hoping this will allow him to survive for at least a few more years.
