Cirrhosis Support Group
Cirrhosis is a consequence of chronic liver disease, most commonly caused by alcoholism and hepatitis C. Ascites is the most common complication of cirrhosis and is associated with a poor quality of life, increased risk of infections, and a poor long term outcome. Liver damage from cirrhosis cannot be reversed, but treatment can stop or delay further progression and...
HCV 1A, null responder in 2009, early stage 4, no alcohol. Great nutrition, exercise, milk thistle.
With hcv, the virus moves in spurts. The older we are, the more damage & collateral damage it can do. Even with hcv stage 4 can go on very many years & you are 3. Decompensated I've seen go 10 years while still drinking & popping pills. You have plenty of time to treat if you're waiting for better options.
Kathy, we take care of ourselves & there are ground breaking treatments opening up this year and more following. I need to treat soon, but will wait for both interferon free & riba free. I'll wait a year for that.
What age would you like to see? Go for it!
Granted, your physical condition is not optimal but, it is not something that can't be changed or dealt with. Find a good gastrointerologist to work with you and who will outline a plan for you to work on your physical problems and then, that doctor will be totally qualified to refer you to a liver specialist if and when it becomes necessary.
I hate the fact that some doctors think they have the right to "play God" when they put their pants one one leg at a time like the rest of us. Only difference is, their pants are much more expensive than our's as a rule. But, truth is also, that they could not afford those more expensive things if it weren't for patient's who belive enough in them to seek their professional opinion and expertise of care. I have worked for about 8 different doctors in my lifetime and never would any one of them turn a patient away because of age or size........that is absurd. Just realize you are much better off without the "quality of care" this jerk would give you..........Thank God they are not all like that. Hugs and prayers.............CarolLentz
very small I think that's what made the doc back off of me doing tx
No good news to tell you, your friend is killing himself. Really no advice to help out other than prepare yourself for the worst.
Talk with other people, friends, relatives, even this forum. Get the help you need to get through this ordeal.
This sounds awful, but no other way to put it. He will probably die from internal bleeding or just complete body shutdown as his organs begin to fail.
Even if he could be saved by a transplant, it takes six months of sobriety to even be considered. Even then, it could be a long wait for a healthy liver to become available.
My uncle was the same way and he died within 6 months of diagnosis of cirrhosis......he just couldn't stop binge drinking. He had a horrible death (that 's what I mean about being there for him)........Nobody could blame you if you gave him an ultimatum and if he doesn't quit drinking and at least try to get help with is addiction and his disease, leave him to his own misery.
I hate giving advice like this but, I am convinced that being true to oneself and facing that truth is the best way to deal with that truth. If he gets one hint that he is "better" he will just go back to drinking. so it will be a lifetime of torture for you to watch.
Hope is always the best approach and prayer and faith will work wonders but, when one is determined to give up, that's all we can do.........continue to hope, pray and rely on our faith...........My heart hurts for you.........Please stay in touch........Hugs and prayers..........CarolLentz
or some just say well I am not going to be able to stop so its no use trying or its too late now.
But no matter how old you are it is never too late to tun things around
as an Ex alcoholic and heavy smoker I know once you make this decision
it is possible just get past the 1st hurdle and you could end up feeling so much better.
if drink is the cause but in any case keeping to a good lifestyle can only be beneficial. Prognosis is not something Doctors talk about with this disease. But you owe it to yourself to do the best ..
