You are wonderful & caring! I've heard that laculose can be very rough on the system. I've heard of a few ways people cope with it. Have you called his doctor & reported his symptoms? The doc can best advize whether to adjust dose or other means of making it more tolerable.

I had the same symptoms. Let the Dr know. My Dr put me on xifaxin instead and I was able to tolerate that well.

I have heard of patients taking both but I did not. The side effects from the lactulose were just too much for me.
O take 500 milligrams in the morning and 500 milligrams at night.

With out a side effect that will only make you feel hot. now you have to be carefull. not to take to much at once. your Liver isn't functioning properly. what do you do next. well the biggest organ in the body is the skin. Niacin. i take 750 mg of it. if your willing to try this. I believe it will help. try taking 250mgs of it. the first day. then if you feel it burn take 250 more mgs of it. don't go over 750 twice a week. it has burnt out a lot of infection in my body and cleans your blood by burning the nasty crap out and getting rid of it threw your skin. which the liver with this disease wont do. if you decide to try it. doctors will tell you not to. they have an agenda though. if you do try it cold you let me know when you start feeling and seening a difference.

All these meds your making your liver deal with. chemicals. where as Niacin is a vitamin.

i take this when i get inflammation or an infection and it dissipates in days.

had diarrhea for 8 months now i believe what ever is killing me. this is the only thing keeping it in check. it comes back ever so often and i do the burn and it goes away for a time. its funny how i discovered it. i would drink a couple monsters. and i would have a regular bowl movement the next day. so i looked into it. and it was the Niacin in the monster. now i use it for more than just that.

I'm on Lactulose and Xifaxan, I never had diarrhea on it. I take 30 ml of Lactulose 4x's a day and 550 mg of Xifaxan 2x's a day and Miralax as needed. I still have stomach cramps, sorry to hear of all the restroom issues your husband has been having. :-(

Anybody here have or know somebody who has jaundice.
