Is there any chance she would be a candidate for a liver transplant? She may have medical comorbidities that preclude that option.
The brain fog is encephalopathy caused by fluids & toxins to the brain. It will come & go depending on her fluid balance, she needs to keep taking her medications for it, or she could become a danger to herself living alone.

I'm not sure about the liver transplant. I'll call her and ask if this has been mentioned with the doctor. Should I get her to the hospital. And drag her but to Sydney. It's hard. There is only myself and my sister. We can't go there all the time as we work and have kids. I just wish she would tell me what's happening to her body. Pain ect. I can only tell by what I see. It's just hard and sad. In the last 2 years she has dealt with cancer under her arm and had knee surgery now this. I think I need to speak to her doctor about what we are to expect and how long she has. I'm not having her dying alone. Is there any mojar warning signs I should know of or is everyone different.

It's impossible to say from afar. If she is willing to allow her physician to converse with you about her medical matters, that would be most helpful. Are there any kinds of home health aides available ---affordable? Also how about just ahome aid to do light cleaning & food shopping who could monitor her nutritional status? What can she eat? she may have no appetitite and need those nutritional drinks. She may not be totally honest with you regarding such matters. If someone could duck inside once per week and assess & report, it may ease your mind. Any friends or neighbors?

A lady does go over once a week to shop and clean. And a neighbour does check up on her every now and then. I did have a chat to her and she won't let me talk to her doctor but my sister called her and she did agree to come to our house over Easter so we will just see. I'll talk to her about the shakes cause she is not eating properly. It's just a waiting game I suppose. As we have no idea of the extent of damage her liver is in. Thank you so much for your input and honesty. I'll just have to keep on her about letting me chat to her doctor. I just need to know how bad she is and what we're in for.

If the home aid or neighbor would tell you what is in her refrigerator & cupboards, it may offer some insight into her diet.
It's a very difficult position you are in. Adults have their dignity and wish to maintain their independence. Give your best, understanding you can do no more than she allows you.

If you live outside the u.s. and Australia. Lactulose should be available without prescription. It's about $15 in the U.K. this will help with the brain fog. As for laying in bed, I came here to try to find answers myself. I am so weak and and tired. I do what I can, when I can, which is very little. You sound like a wonderful daughter. Loisiana, we despise that weak & tired! Yes, sometimes just have to roll with it & rest. Diet very important. Avoiding toxins. I've increased my energy a little bit by dragging myself to the gym a few days per week. Just walking the treadmill or doing a gentle stretch class, its a commitment to Get Out & Do Something. We have to stimulate the body & kick metabolism. Keep moving, or soon we will be unable to move. The terrible sleep patterns! Darn can't stand waking up at 3am. I've using some Tylenol pm once in awhile or an occasional Benadryl to try to sleep through the night so I'm not dogged tired all day.

Your mother has ascites, the fluid in her belly. That fluid is easily infected and fatal.
The foggy brain is a build up of ammonia in the blood that is typically removed by the liver. If she doesn't take lactulose she will suffer permanent brain damage (wet brain).
She needs to be hospitalized immediately and will need a blood transfusion and I've fluids.

Hello I'm new on here. Your mum's situation sounds like me. Well how I was. I was told six months ago I have cirrohsis and was in hospital for a while had to drains and one drain the fluid was infected. When I was discarged I was still very big on stomach. A I was swollen so much I didn't realise that when the fluid did disappear I was stick thin it was scary. And there wadnt a sign of mussel or strengh in me. I know your mum maybe worried about belly still big and in pain but assure her it will clear on its own through urine and her water tablets. I have read people have reguler drains but I know every one is different. I had no walk or balance. She must work at it. I was so shocked at changes in me weekly. Another thing that kerps me going is positivity and eat well. Not easy at beginninggood made me ill the thought but again assure her that will come back and with a bang. And tell her she has the best job in the world and millions of peple would want it. It's to eat till your heart is content to gain her weight back.. yes the depression dont help and you don't want to get how of bed. Give her something to look forward too and get better for.. not dwelling why me.. I haven't seen my kids in six months as my family brought me to England for help and support. L. Regular blood test. And when you see your levels goind down its a good feeling its like you have achieved something. I see it's a while since you posted and would like to know how your mum is doing. hello my name is tamie I also have advanced stage liver cirrhosis went to hosptail I look like I was 9 mo preg good thing I went I was admitted and they vac out my belly5.9 litter of toxic ascities that was infected and was eating my belly from the in side the fluied wade 24 pounds so has to your question by all means drage her out of that bed and get to a hosptail asap
