Have you had your gallbladder yanked?

My husband (non alcoholic cirrhosis) had his gb out last summer.. almost a year ago. He has more belly pain and heartburn now than he ever did before. Being a man, he refuses to go back to the doctor.. thinks he knows better than the docs. So, he is suffering.

Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing? Is there any help for it? Could this really be a result of having the gb taken out?

Personally I think he needs a CAT scan and a colonoscopy, but I can't convince him to let me take him in. He is always cold and spends a lot of time in bed. But these "attacks" are coming closer together and seem worse to me.

My gallbladder was removed along with my liver in 2010 when I had my transplant. The gallbladder and pancreas share at least one bile duct and work together somehow. I also don"t have my appendix. I have had my share of abdominal pain, back pain, heartburn, etc. I've been on Prilosec since my transplant, and my wonderful nurse at my gastro doctor's office advised me to mix one teaspoon of Metamusil daily with a glass of water and drink it. That helps tremendously. I'm doing so much better now.

MLTTexas thanks so much. Does the Metamucil just make you go to the bathroom? This man just won't let me take him to the doctor. He gets these "attacks" every so often...more and more lately. I've been feeding him GAX X and Maalox etc. Whatever works. He refused a transplant. He has had pancreatitis once before the gb surgery. I just wondered if this was typical to still be having all this pain.

The metamusil, taking that one dose a day, is considered a prebiotic. It doesn"t act like a laxative, but just helps keep you regular. If the belly pain IS related to the gallbladder being gone, he needs to eat smaller amounts more often rather than big meals and avoid greasy foods. I am cold natured too since my transplant. And as far as staying in bed a lot, walking , especially after meals, helps me.
I'm wondering how advanced his cirrhosis is or how long it's been since he's had an MRI of the abdomen, which would show the condition of the liver and pancreas. And also, what do the blood tests fpr liver functions show? I put you both on my prayer list. But by the sheer grace of God, I wouldn't be here today.

organization. .....What worked for me was grazing, small frequent gentle meals. I took previcid for a little while and if it gets bad will take again. Occasionally I enjoy greek yogurt. I'm early stage 4, or 3-4, well compensated. Nice to meet you :)
