Switch to Boost Plus. It is lower in sodium. You are going to be fighting a battle for weight gain and this is why you drink the shakes in addition to meals. You are malnourished as well since the liver is not absorbing vitamins and minerals like it should be. You need all the nourishment you can get. Eat lots of fresh foods too, and supplement with lots of B and C!! Craig C. has a TON of info about this on his website that I previously sent to you. It is in the "My Bible" section of his site. I encourage you to open it and read it.

I would think so, but the sodium is higher, and if you have problems with sodium you might look into the boost. Some folks around here have to keep to very strict sodium intake guidelines and it makes a big difference.

I don't see why it wouldn't be - I was given Fortisip Extra at one point, which appears to be essentially the same thing and seems to be a sensible way to boost your protein/vitamin intake.

Given my health at the time, I know they wouldn't have done it, if there was any potential downside!

Lowering salt intake helps you avoid ascites and high blood pressure, so the less salt you eat, the better- You do need a minimum amount of salt, though.

My liver specialist has not told me avoid salt or any other foods/drinks, but I see him on 15 OCT 2010 , I will ask him whether I should tho.

I took ensure plus for weight gain, as it was recommended by both my hepatologist and a dietician. I was in serious need of weight gain, as I had lost over 100lbs, and could not eat anything! these worked well for me, and I'm now, three years later, in need of weight loss
