Blood Glucose Levels

I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis 6 years ago. after being in hospital with Peritonitis.

My scan's have retuned to a stable picture and spleen is normal

I was told that if I continue to stay abstinent then the scaring may improve slightly and not get any worse.

However about a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic this apparently has the same effect as continuing to drink.

So It is very important for people with liver conditions to be checked for diabetes

Some of the symptoms put down to Cirrhosis could be also signs of diabetes.

The normal liver blood tests do not usually pick up on diabetes.

It seems to be even more important for liver patient's to control their sugar levels

my last glucose test came a wee bit high... gotta see what the next one may bring.

i struggled with blood sugar levels for a long time. always on boarder line or a bit high. I found by limiting my carbs esp white flour carbs my surgar levels became normal and I began to feel normal...meaning no highs and then the Crash. I am new i have been watching on and off for about a month. I joined yesterday. Not even sure why. I am in end stage have been for a while. I seem to manage it well right now. Not to much to complain about. Not even sure I will stay.

Jerry was diagnosed Type 2 quite a few years ago. So now I wonder did that contribute to the liver disease or did the (then unknown) liver disease contribute to the diabetes?

Hi its a bit of a shadow feeling ok but being aware just how rapidly things can change

about 30% of people with cirrhosis go on to develop type 2 diabetes
the liver and pancreas are both involved in insulin production and how it is made available to handle blood glucose levels

The HBa1c test for blood glucose checks over the last 3 months are not part of the routine liver blood tests. and would need to be ordered as an extra

So In the UK at least it would not be a standard blood check unless you had diabetic symptoms.

I guess maybe most patients think well liver disease is enough to be going on with.

But the earlier it is detected the better
