Hello everyone! Need advice please. My husband as you all know has had liver issues for about 10 years off and on. For the most part the most significant sign of liver disease has been bleeding varicies back in 2004. Since then he has not had any serious medical issues other than nausea and a mallory weiss tear. Yes my husband is an alcoholic and refuses to stop drinking which is the culprit of his disease. I realize that without him stopping his drinking he doesnt have a chance for a long life. Nevertheless I love him and have chosen to say by his side till the end. So now here is the deal.

3 weeks ago he went to the doctor and his labs were normal according to the doctor. No indication of liver disease. His liver is not enlarged nor does he have any other physical sign of the disease for now. So , here I am today wondering how to treat the current situation.

My husband has decided to detox at home from alcohol. It is now day 4 and he has had little to eat and has severe nausea. I am hydrating him with Gatorade and Pedialyte pops and I am giving him fruit to supplement. Im wondering if I should be suspecting liver failure or is the nausea part of the detox? Hes detoxed before but the nausea has not lasted this long before so Im a bit concerned.

Of course he doesnt want to go to the hospital. Im doing the best I can to monitor his symptoms however I am not convinced that its not his liver failing. His blood pressure and pulse are normal and he has no temperature. SO really its the nausea thats killing him. He has no pain and his abdomen is soft with no swelling.

I know some of you guys are recovering alcoholics or still drink with this disease. Can anyone offer me some insight on what else to look out for and whether this nausea is expected and for how long through the detox? Or should I be fearing liver failure? Also, any advice on what to give him for nausea? I have zofran at home so Ive been giving him that but it doesnt seem to help that much. Thanks!
