From my very off topic post a few months ago..
That my mini yorkie had a major trachea surgery
a few months ago.
Well..he has since been on a cough Med..
Every day, four times a day.
When we called in his refill today..
The vets receptionist tried to tell me they changed his Med last month.
Well..I got the bottle and read it t her..
And she STILL sounded sceptical.
I explained to her that my husband had brought the written script from the pharmacy....because the scheduling of the Med had been changed. She got kinda a snotty tone and told me she'd get back to me later.
My assumption is..
That the specialist who did the surgery and prescribed the Med..
Reccomended the best possible option for him.
Sooo..I'm a little freaked that there's talk of changing it.
Might have to send someone forty five minutes out if town every month to get his script.
( those familiar with me. Know he's a HUGE part of helping me stay at peace)
The funny thing is...he is so small..he's nly on two milligrams a day. The whole months prescription doesn't amount to but a couple of human doses.
And..yes..every month I comment to my husband and/or daughter..the awful irony that there are humans suffering unnesecary pain, while my dog is getting an opiate.
My husband us " handling it ". I'm trying to stay calm.I KNOW this will seem ridiculous to some. My poor husband payed a ludicrous sum for his surgery, because he IS so important to me.
I'm relieved I always start his refill process early..so..if they do change his Med..I have enough that he won't have to stop it abruptly.
I just hope the other is as effective. Coughing can disrupt the rings in his throat and be extremely dangerous.

The point actually was...the politicizing of meds has now even extended to the dogs. What a world.

I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good. They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
So very sad...humans treated like animals and even dogs can't get the help they once did. I always said my dog would get better care at a vet than I've received recently but...maybe that really isn't the case.
I hate this world anymore.
I REALLY hope your little guy can get his medication so he is comfortable and not coughing.

Well....they refilled it as it was.
Turns out...his regular vet..who has been handling his meds..
Told my husband last months that there were other options.
Since this Med has been changed on the FDA schedule.
But..my husband said ( correctly so:-) ..
I'd insist on going with what the specialist who did the surgery reccomnded.
I REALLY like the surgeon...I've never seen a vet so concerned with pain management. My little guy even had a tiny piece of a fentanyl patch sewn on after his surgery.
Michelle...my husband swears my dog gets better healthcare than he does..

In this case..the ooiate is t supress a cough...not for pain.
( coughing could dislodge the rings in his throat..
So it's kinda not just for comfort..but to help him I've.
Haha..I have an old cat who's getting senile..I never thought of her as blaming the kitter box for not feeling good..:-) :-)

It's kinda scary how the political war on drugs is invading choices that Dr.s..and now even Vets are making..isn't it?
I think that's as it should be.
I'm not opposed to sensible laws.
I just don't think the government should be making decisions for Dr.s...or Veterenarians.
glad Dude got his cough syrup...how do you give it to him? on bread? we gave our doxie his heart med I forget what it was called but was red liquid on bread for him...he gobbled it no problems....it was to help his heart keep beating wish I could remember....long ago RIP Rusty
I'm so happy you were able to get the right med for your little guy.
All three of our little guys are on meds. Busterbrown is the youngest & he's my stoner puppy (he's 3 1/2). The two bones in his front left leg fused together instead of growing straight separately. He's been on pain meds since he was approx 6mn old. It's never slowed the little bugger down lol!
It's really kind of funny & pathetic all four of us (me& my 3 dogs) take our morning meds at the same time & then go to bed lol there is nothing better then waking up and seeing twelve little paws in the air lost in their own puppy dreams......yep that site is often better than my meds!

I give him the liquid ( ooiate) squirted through a syringe without the needle into his mouth.
His thyroid Med..a pill..is snuck into a piece of meat or cheese. Same for prednisone when he's on it.

We would get pet. Meds at our regular pharmacy
It was often much cheaper
And typically same med. different does
