Should I keep putting them on so I'm not depressed through my trip or should I just suffer it now?

That is a question that really, only your doctor can and should answer. Withdrawal is tough, but fortunately, doesn't last too long.

I think I'm just going to suffer the pain after the vacation. I don't want to hurt my grandma but being depressed or angry. She does so much for me and I want to make sure she sees me happy

If your doctor gave you the Nucynta to replace the patches, you shouldn't keep taking the patches while taking the Nucynta. Call your doctor if the withdrawl side effects are too much. But they should only last for a day or two because the patches don't have that long of a half-life. Don' t take both drugs if you're only meant to take one, and call your doctor and follow what they say to do. Good luck!

I was on both at the same time, but got off the patch because it was making me tired.

I don't knowwhat that second med your talking about is..is that a pain pill too or something else. A doc should never make someone go cold turkey on a pill I would call and ask for something else.

LBF, Nucynta is also used for pain. It is a mu-opioid antagonist and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is thought to work well because it works on pain signals sent up from the body to the brain as well as the pain signals from the brain down to the body. It's fairly new.

Shlay, I'd definitely call your doctor. I know there is a 12.5mcg patch that you might be able to get to make getting off the patches easier. There are also meds that can ease withdrawl side effects. This is a good reason to call your doc, I'm sure they won't be bothered by your call! I hope you start feeling better soon!

They are both pain pills. I changed my mind. I'm just going to take the second pain pill at the higher dose she gave me and not take the patch and tough it out.

I don't know if I am reading this the way you meant it?
If your MD took you off the patches, you should absolutely NOT be on them or you should go back to your MD and come up with a different solution.
If you are taking your patches against your MD orders so you are not depressed or angry...those are behaviors for self medication for the wrong reasons.

Whatever you decide...make it the decision about health and honor of the relationship you have with your MD...dont make a decision based on frustration / being uncomfortable from withdrawl.

My doc had me on nuycnta but had to take me off of it because it made me have horrible mood swings.. the side effects you are feeling may not be from withdrawal but from the new meds. while I was on it I was angry all the time, I mean frighteningly so. My 9 y/o came in one day and dropped his coat on the floor (like he always does) and I started screaming at him at the top of my lungs. logically I knew that I was going overboard about it but I couldn't stop. by the time I was done yelling at him we were both in tears. I called my doctor that night and he took me off it ASAP.

you could have different side effects but the depression could be from the nuycnta!!! if it gets bad and doesn't go away call your doctor and let him know.. what really sucked about it was that the meds really helped my pain but I just couldn't make my family deal with the side effects.

Shlay, I'm really curious... was the tiredness the only side effect you were having? I've just start the fentynal patch a little over 2 weeks ago and during the 1st week it wasn't really controlling my pain as well so my PD has me change it every 48 hours verses 72. NOW my side effects have gotten much much worse. My husband almost had me convinced that I needed an exorcist!! The main problems are that I severely "twitch" in my sleep and , I guess, I act out my dreams including making faces. The not so serious are the tiredness, memory loss, dizziness, and a kind of stumbling around. ( which I'm just starting to get under control, somewhat. ) The dizziness can get really really bad due to weather changes. I have vertigo, which is a symptom of something, just don't know what it is. I've had it for over 14 years.
ANYWAY, hoping you could give me some insight on this. I just started reading up on the side effects on the fentynal patch and decided to come here. I was on my way to bed as I can't seem to keep my eyes open any longer...

SS, the side effects are not worth the pain relief! At least for me. My memory was shot, I was a emotionless zombie, I had twitches when I was falling asleep, BAD. Had some pretty bad nightmares, which is really bad for me because I have nightmares to begin with. I couldn't wake up in the morning, had to drink two red bulls to get going. It was just total dizzy, confusing lala land. Uck!

Thank you for your reply. It's not even that the Fentynal is giving me that good of pain relief, but I really have no choice due to my insurance. I was taking oxycodone ER ( which is basically a generic oxycontin ) and it worked really well, but now the company that makes it is discontinuing it!! AARRG! The crap I went through to even FIND oxycodone ER was pure hell! But to get my pain clinic to help me find an extended release pain Rx that is covered by my insurance was like pulling teeth!! That in itself is a long story. But it seems I may be back to square one. I looked up adverse side effects on fentynal patch and what you and I are/were going through is under the category of "contact you doctor immediately. " And of course I look this up on a Friday night and won't be able to call until Monday!!! LOL!

in my own opionon here anything that messes with norepinepherine should be stepped off of slowly don't ya think? correct me if i'm wrong i'm no doc, if your still haveing problems i'd give my doc a call. take care
