Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
Much love,
Lisa
It's horrible gaining weight.
I was 45 kilos when i started the lycria and now i cant fit into my normal clothes.
Some medication hold water weight as well.
It's hard to lose weight when in chronic pain as well.
you are not alone
I have mentioned it to my gp who just seems to think that it because I sit on my butt all day and eat crap!!!The nurses at the pain clinic are very good but having been told that I should stick to the excersizes that they give me and not push myself or I will head for payback,
I also hate being naked around my partner as he as known me as a smaller, thiner, almost different person and I would hate for him to feel repulsed by my body.I have talked to him about this and he tells me he loves me and still fancies me and that I look at myself differently to how he sees' me.
Have you spoken about this and your feelings about it to your doctor??Or you husband??Maybe your doctor could try a different dose or med for you??Or an exersize plan, swimming??I so wish that we could enjoy the benefits of these meds but irradicate the awful side effects huh??!!??Hun I will be offline for a couple of days but if you need to chat pm me and I will get back to you asap when I get my laptop back(from the computer doctors!!!)Hugs xxxxx
The VA hospital can set you up with a nutritionist who knows what the meds do to us. I immediately bulked at the idea. I DIDN'T NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO TELL ME HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT!
After gaining over 100lbs, I decided to join the hospitals MOVE program and they even gave me a pedometer. They only "butt in" when I ask for it, otherwise they give me information and let me decide what will work best.
I am assuming, since you said "base" that you were in the military. (As was I) So the hospital you go to for pain management should have a nutritionist as well as the move program. My husband joined with me and he is not a disabled Veteran, he is just a veteran. (I didn't mean it the way it sounded-all Veteran's are something more than "just a Veteran"
I found the more unhappy I became with my weight the more depressed I became and there is something about depression...where you can gain 50lbs by looking at a piece of cake.
Try and lift your spirits, love you for who you are now, and your husband will love you too.
It's funny, as I am writing this, there is an ad on the right talking about losing 5 lbs this week!
I would join a weight loss group in Daily Strength also.
Write me back if you want to keep in touch, the more friends I have, the more I like myself!
:( and that was subtracting 4 pounds. I dont know what to do. I cannot take Neurontin I was put on that after being diagnosed with neuropathy at the highest dosage it didnt work for me. But I have some here at home I dont know if you would have to wait to switch but I could try it and see if it helped me any. I honestly think it is the nerve blocks ever since I started those I have ballooned and I get another one next month.
I think the hardest part about it for me is people coming up to me asking how far along I am in my pregnancy because that is how my tummy really looks and im not. and the stretch marks god I hate them. Its like my tummy and thighs have had a air pump hooked up to them like you see in the cartoons lol.
i thought of just stopping my meds all together tonight Im at the point and I know im saying this because my pain is bad right now but i just cant take looking like this we took family pictures at thanksgiving and Im just huge and I know 110 isnt huge for some but on me it looks so bad. I tried not eating because with the steroids I was eating at least $100 worth of food a week. but im juts plain huge and its my fault. im really going to kick the wii's butt tomorrow and friday depending on how bad my pain is im going to do an aerobic class for the older people ( its slower and not many hard movements) and the pool therapy class. The pool is the best thing for me because even just floating in there helps my pain. Drives others nuts because I reserve the lane for an hour and im just in there with my floaty noodle floating back and forth not even kicking or anything. but anyways I just wanted to say I am now officially overweight and I cannot stand looking in the mirror.
