Yes, it would be nice to say something about yourselves and you lives, so try this. Hey that sounds wonderful, we did something similar and then go at it. Or bring pics of the family and outings, they have to look at them. This changes the topic to what you have to say.
Remember to omit the chronic pain. Outsiders don't understand unfortunately, plus talking about pain is a buzz kill at dinner.

Guess in the business world you have to do things like going to dinner with people who dominate the conversation. Do they dominate the business affairs too?
