When I took Tramadol a long time ago, I had the same side effect, so yes it can happen with this medication. The medication did absolutely nothing for my pain. I got that medication prescribed before my surgeries, and within the week he was prescribing Vicodin for me, so yes it didn't work very well for my pain either.

Taking 300mg provides some relief. Unfortunatly, as you have both mentioned, it does have some SNRIergic effects. It tends to cause serotonin storm in higher doses and that would explain the massive anxiety. It lowers the seizure threshold as a result.

I don't have any problems with the drug but for many people this is not the case. For a ten dollar generic, and the fact my doctor refuses to write any scheduled opiates, I am forced to take tramadol over nothing.

I made the mistake this month to tell him it did nothing and he took it away, thinking that since it does not work I clearly must not have any pain.

Please change to something else if the serotonerigic side effects are bad. Heck, it makes people seize sometimes! Not good for people who also have anxiety.

Nucynta, the stronger tramadol version, might share some of the side effects. I'm not sure. I'd like to try but its unreasonably CII.

I am currently taking tramadol, I started a few months ago and it has helped me a little. I also am experiencing this side effect, its not that bad but it can be uncomfortable sometimes. Another one that I noticed is that it makes my stool hard, which can also be uncomfortable. sorry if thats TMI. I hope that you can find something that works better for you! Good luck

I'm taking 2 x 50mg 4 times a day, along with 2 x 200mg ibuprohfen 4 times a day also (in between each tramadol).

I am having stage fright and obviously I'm dopey.. so I don't drive once I've taken my pain killers!

Making you constipated SARA is a side effect, it can happen with alot of medications, if this becomes too much of an issue there are laxitives you can take daily that can help. I do take them as I have the same issue and it has helped to elivate this problem. Also, drinking prune juice can help and I am told fruit helps also and to stay away from things like cheese thant clogs you up!

I don't see it as "stage fright", but yeah Tramadol makes me have difficulty in starting my stream as well as keeping it going once it starts.

This side effect can cause stage fright when you're in the can for 15 minutes starting and stopping, especially at public urinals.

It works very well for me, I guess I'm just lucky; but WIRED!!!, can't sleep on it. Also a major source of "Elvis colon", so I keep the Miralax et al steady.

So, you aren't alone taters.

If a doc isn't meeting your needs for pain control, switch. If he / she Rxs drugs with bad side effects, keep in mind that most meds have side effects. You must determine whether or not they are tolerable to you. The stronger schedule II pain relievers work the best but have many side effects such as severe constipation and dependence. (One must be weaned off if the dose and duration of time used is high enough.) Tramadol and other pain meds can cause issues with starting your stream while urinating, so you are not alone.

Endured no urine issues with tramadol. Decided to stop lortab (10/500 6x daily prn) and my doc put me in for tramadol 50mg 4x daily, and valium 5mg 4x daily. This was my choice and it did not work for the chronic pain/fibro problem. I only experienced two days of withdrawal "discomfort" - however, Advil soon became my best friend. I was pleased that after three plus years on narcotics the withdrawal was so easy (i.e., no convulsions, vomiting, etc.) BUT, tramadol is NO pain reliever, at least for me. In my case it only covered, I guess, the normal withdrawal associated with cold turkey.

It was the pain that the lortab helps with. Helps, only. (Back on lortab, now.)

Hope your "professor" can write for narcotics - if your pain is moderate to severe as others I've talked with re: tramadol; waste of time and money - Advil/ibuprofen is better for pain relief.

If you are on any antidepressents or other meds that raise serotonin levels than using Tramadol and Nucynta can cause serotonin related probs like serotonin syndrome or storm...

This is from Nucynta's own site -- "The development of a potentially life-threatening serotonin syndrome may occur with use of SNRI products, including NUCYNTA, particularly with concomitant use of serotonergic drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, MAOIs and triptans, and with drugs which impair metabolism of serotonin (including MAOIs). Serotonin syndrome may include mental-status changes (eg, agitation, hallucinations, coma), autonomic instability (eg, tachycardia, labile blood pressure, hyperthermia), neuromuscular aberrations (eg, hyperreflexia, incoordination) and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea). "

Yes, I barely covered that topic with the tramadol/tapentadol drugs in reply two... Some nasty side effects can occur. I'm sure that some people even without taking MAOIs or antidepressants can get the same side effects.

As for tramadol, I'm taking it until tomorrow as merely a stop-gap. It works, barely, to keep me sane until doctor gives me something more potent.
