I have had that problem before. Insurence companies like to rassion health care. I hate insurence copnaies as far as I am concered there evil. I have also had problems with pharmasicts that didn't approve of pain pills and made up laws that don't exist because the pharmsist didn't like pain killers. The easist way out of this mess is to call the doc's nurse and have the doc write an order to counter the evil health insurence company. sorry your going through all this, if ya ever need anything let me know

I have the opposite problem with INS companies.. I can't get one.. preexisting condition and all that. so every time I go to the doc I have to pay cash and while I don't have to worry about an INS company telling me it is too soon to re-fill my meds I do have to pay cash for them. I spend about $300 a month between Dr. appointment and the meds. I am hoping that with the new health care reform Obama put in place that I will finally be able to get on my husbands INS. we will know in a couple weeks... wish me luck!!!

Two avenues I can suggest. First one is to use AAA. They have a little known card that helps you pay for medications if your insurance company will not pay.

Second suggestion involves a little phone work to start. Call your insurance company and ask for the mailing address which corresponds to you wanting to challenge their decision regarding your prescription(s). Get a letter from your doctor stating why they are changing your script and write out a well composed letter asking for a review of your situation. Make copies of everything and then send out priority mail with signature confirmation. You have the right to do this. It is written into everyone's insurance policies.

I did get my meds that day.
I checked on aaa site, my oxycontin would be 200 something, cant even afford that, so I will continue with short acting thats only 30$, til they come out with a generic oxycontin.

Had the same issue a few days ago. Hit the pharmacy with new prescription and new dosage IN HAND. Gave it to them. When I tried to pick up the prescription they gave me the whole, "it's not time to refill yet, your insurance won't allow you to refill early." After a few minutes of explaining I finally got them to LOOK at the prescription I gave them.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm even getting the right pills. Teenagers should not be working the pharmacy.

I understand your frustration. I had a similar problem getting my ambien filled, several times over. My doc writes for 30 and sometimes I get 30 and sometimes the insurance only gives 14. Go figure!

I am sorry that you are (in my opinion) wrongly afraid of insurance reforms. I have been all over the world (3 dozen + countries on 5 continents) and our system is truly the worst in the "developed" world. Too many plans and rules and too much bureacracy. I did not have any complaint with the Swiss and Italian systems, very efficient and money never changed hands, nor was insurance even necessary. Can you belive that the day after being discharged from a hospital in Rome, they went way out of their way to track me down in my hotel room to make sure I was feeling fine? Change is scary but necessary and inevitable.

At any rate, vent away, that is what we are here for. I hope your issues are resolved without additional unnecessary frustration. What a pain!

Yes, maybe the changes proposed by the government to reign in the insurance industry will be better than how the VA is run. (The government will NOT be "running" healthcare but limiting insurance companies power to deny us due to pre-existing conditions. They will no longer be able to magically rescind a policy we paid for in good faith, after the fact of their accepting our paytments and approving us. Those changes are hard to argue with.)

However, we shall also not expect instant perfection. Trial and error will be involved. But if the freight train (that we call medical care in the USA) continues down the current path, we will bankrupt too many good, hardworking, loyal Americans who had the audacity to get sick or injured.

A for-profit system is at odds with what is best for the patient. Our system encourages docs to overcharge and run unnecessary tests. It encourages docs to keep visits very short, cattle calls. Mayo is considered one of our nation's best run medical facilities. Did you know that their docs are salaried at a set rate? They do not receive a sales commission for "selling" their patients more tests than they need, or ones that do not enlighten. Mayo does not allow its physicians to receive a sales commission for "selling" patients prescriptions for the very expensive new drugs, when the old ones work just as well and cost 10-20% of what the new ones do. Plus the long-term risks have been established.

My biggest concern is how entrenched corporate lobbyists are with the government. This is not a partisan thing. The Dems and Repubs both eagerly accept these bribes. Votes for dollars. Bribery needs to be outlawed.

speaking of INS companies, even with the new rules in place we just found out today that while my husbands INS company can no longer deny me (which they did in the past) for my preexisting condition, they have labeled me as high risk and for my husband to add me to his INS would cost an additional $638.00 a month, what kind of crap is that, I don't pay that much each month out of pocket when I see the doctor AND fill my scripts. and it is only a 70/30 plan which means I would still shell out $50 for the appointment.. and have to deal with the INS company telling me what they will and wont cover.. it is such a crock!!!

Wow!!! l'm hearing things l nev got @ pharmacy. l get medicare & l get whats prescribed WHEN it's prescribed ls there differences in a FED program between states?? As for private companies, l would research
a national phone co called me 3x on my cell after l had called w/ simple complaint. So l called customer noservice & got the name of the man that answered & asked him his name. Then l assured him he would be featured prominently ln the business section of sunday paper if l got 1, just 1 more call. No one called back
