Out of the blue I got hit with a vicious stomach bug last night. I woke in the middle of the night, freezing (1st sign I'm sick as I'm always TOO warm) & vomited repeatedly and violently. I was literally crawling back & forth from bed to bathroom.
Then, about 4 hours later I realized that I must've missed a dose of my pain meds as my foot was on fire. I started with half a dose, and threw that up. I tried phenergan (anti-nausea) and got some meds down, but 3 hours later I was at it again.
I ended up really dehydrated & now that I've managed to get some water to stay down, am wondering if saltines are a good idea? I haven't vomited since this morning, and other than having an upset stomach, I'm okay. I mean, I have that woozy feeling one gets when one has the flu, but I'm not vomiting anymore or having chills.
The hardest part was missing an egg-dying event my son & I were supposed to do. And as I just got back in town after almost a week away, my son just wants to be around me. I want to be around him, too, but can't imagine him getting sick, especially this sick.
So if I'm able to keep water & finally, my RSD meds down, does anyone know how long I need to wait to eat a few crackers? My fear is upsetting my stomach so much that I can't keep my meds down.
I hate that something as simple as the stomach flu really affects the RSD, too. I haven't been this sick as an adult for years.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

So sorry this is happening when you and your son had plans. You may want to try ice chips first.
Sending positive energy and lots of prayers. Feel better soon.
Hugs-RJ
I'm so sorry you're sick- especially around a holiday You're right to keep your son away from you- at least for another day. Perhaps by tonight you'll be up for dying eggs
I'd try sips of ginger ale and a few saltines at first. If they stay down, try some chicken broth- just a little at a time. Try drinking sips of Gatorade to get your electrolytes back on track. Just a sip every 20 minutes. You don't have to chug it to get your lytes back on track.
Then keep your stomach rested for a couple days. This may be mean missing Easter dinner but your stomach needs rest for at least 24 hours after the virus has passed or you'll find yourself vomittng again. Keep taking the Phenergan if you continue to feel nauseated. It will help keep the crackers and broth down.
I hope you're feeling better soon. If it's just a 24 hour virus (as most stomach viruses are) you should be feeling better soon and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy your holiday tomorrow.

Tossed even water all day yesterday and THurdsay night.\
FISRT, meds with small swallow of water.
Wait at least 90 minutes. THIS IS IMPORTANT!
You want those meds on board and not coming up again.
To start, take one small nibble of cracker.
WAIT 3 hours.
If your still fine, no nausea or anything worsens, nibble again.
And sips of water, soda, gator aid.
Keeping meds down when sick is really important.
The flu this year is really bad!
Feel better
My advice to you is sips of gatorade every 20 mins. Take the phenergan as prescribed around the clock today to keep the severe vomiting away. If you cannot swallow the pills of antinausea medication then call your doc and have him call in rectal suppositories. Main thing is fluids right now. Solids not so much. Just try to keep yourself hydrated. If you have gone 4 hours without throwing up then you can try chicken or beef broth. If you throw up yellow or green then you HAVE to get IV fluids. Take care and I am so sorry you are going through this!! Praying you will feel better soon!!!!!
Everyone has given you good advice. I would just stress Gatorade after you have kept down the ice chips and a saltine.

I got back from a business trip in Vegas Thursday morning at 2am, took a cab home, woke my son up for school at 7am, napped 2 hours, picked my son up from bus stop & went to my fascist insurance company annual exam where they drew blood (needles are NOT my cup of tea) then went to shop for a friend's new baby. I came home, told my hubby I was feeling tired & went to bed at about 7pm. I wake a few hours later with a pain in my gut, severely freezing, & am suddenly tossing my cookies. I mean, it was FAST!
I felt fine until I woke up after a few hours' sleep- that was a strange thing. I haven't vomited in over 24 hours but I'm also weak, which sucks. Why THIS weekend? But, I KNOW it could be worse, and I know I was ripe for catching anything b/c I'd had so little sleep & was in my 4th airplane (full of germs) in 5 days.
So far, no one else has been ill. My hubby's making the Easter dinner and I just need to attend to the Easter Bunny. AND clean my husband's mess b/c Easter Bunny leaves baskets in the family room, the area my husband thinks is okay for leaving things laying around.
But hopefully, tonight, I will sleep. I took an ambien and hope it'll help me just stop worrying, stop feeling the pain in my shoulders & foot, and get the sleep I need. I don't know where I got this flu but I got a flu shot this year to AVOID this. I can handle a lot of pain, a bad foot, difficulty doing certain things, and I deal with it. But wow, I'd forgotten how REALLY terrible vomiting is! And it's so violent! I felt as if I knew what the girl in Exorcist felt- I had NO control over my body.
That said, it's just time to rest now and I do so appreciate everyone here! Thanks for caring! :)
