I have had quite the rollercoaster ride over the last several years. I herniated my disc, had a discectomy that did not help my pain. After many different proceedures and pt and pills a fusion was done a little over 3 weeks ago. I woke up from the surgery and was very pleased that my pain in my left leg was gone. However, once I shifted in bed I got a muscle cramp from the top of my RIGHT leg down to my knee and my RIGHT foot went numb on top. Big toe totally numb, and if I walk my ankle aches and the numbness goes up my calf.

So they decide that maybe the "hardware" they put in on that side was too close to the nerve so a second surgery was done to remove it. And it didn't help. 3 rounds of steriods, one through iv, and it has not gotten any better. An MRI was done last Fri, and I find out the results of that tomorrow.

I have heard for a few friends who have had fusions, with wonderful out comes, that they had numbness and some pain that lasted for about 2 months. If you have had a fusion done, did you have this problem? How long did it take to go away?

Also, wondering how long it took for you to get back to a normal day. Meaning, showering, working and doing normal tasks without it wearing you down to tears.

I am working part time, from home. Laying flat on my back with a laptop table. But staying in one spot is difficult and I'm trying to decide if I am pushing to hard to fast. Having a bad day today after working 6 1/2 hours yesterday, showering, drying my hair, makeup and going with my daughter and husband to her ortho appt. My back kills, the pain meds are not kicking in and I'm in tears. I have never been a patient person.
