In a recent breakfast for legislators in New Hampshire Senator Rand Paul said half the people on Social Security disability are faking.

Mr. Paul
Your recent remarks during a breakfast in New Hampshire concerning those living with disabilities are appalling. Your "walk like a duck" theory is ignorant. Some of us chronic pain patients can appear to walk like a duck with the aid of medication, therapy, and dogged willpower. And, some of us can sometimes glide on top of the water. But remember, we're paddling like heck to stay afloat.
You said:
"You know, the thing is that with all of these programs, there's always somebody who's deserving and everybody in this room knows somebody who is gaming the system. What I tell people is, 'If you look like me and you hop out of your truck, you shouldn't be getting a disability check .' You know, over half the people on disability are either anxious or their back hurts. Join the club! [the group laughs] Who doesn't get up a little anxious for work every day and their back hurts?! Everybody over 40 has a back pain."
Wanna walk a mile in my shoes, Mr. Paul?
Where do you get your "facts"? How do you know over half of us lie, cheat, and steal just like over half the politicians in Washington? Did you personally speak to or examine the 10 million people who are on Social Security disability? How can you be a serious candidate for anything?
I suppose if you were president you would take out over half the seats in congress, because, you know, over half those jokers are just there to get rich.
Or maybe you should cut over half the federal funds you send to Kentucky because, you know, over half that money goes to buy bourbon, and, you know, Kentucky produces 95 percent of the world's bourbon supply, and that means, you know, over half the state of Kentucky is too drunk to figure out what to do with over half those federal dollars.
Take half a minute to listen to Mr. Paul Gileno, founder and president of the U.S. Pain Foundation. Take half a minute and listen to half the 117 million persons who live with chronic pain 24/7. I bet you'll get over half of them to tell the truth about what a wonderful time we chronic pain people are having.
If you're calling for new leadership in the White House, I agree we do need something different. But what we've needed for too long is for over half the candidates to take over half a minute to get over half the facts right, and speak over half the truth.

I can also get out of my truck, but it takes me three very methodical maneuvers to do so. I can't just jump out like I used to be able to. I think Rand Paul should be educated about people who are in chronic pain. He should know better than that, he is a doctor himself. I guess no one will ever understand what it is we go through until it happens to them. I wouldn't worry about Rand so much, he is sort of a nutcase, no one is going to vote him into office.

Totally out of touch.
Sometimes the meds actually work and people look at the CP person walking and moving around, so obviously they must be faking it. (Right) There are so few good days, that biased people can easily take down a CPr on a good day.
Mine is dictated by the hour. If the medication is still working great, when it wears down before the next dose, I can barely move. So if some one saw me at 1 pm and then at 3pm they would see a huge difference. I take meds every 2 hours and they do not last long enough, so I will drop back to tremors, high pain, and looking like a rusted "Tin-Man".
With all of these reality shows, we need someone to follow a patient that looks normal when their meds are working, and then see how bad they are when the meds wear down. Glad you took action Dave45.
Yes Rand Paul is very odd. Hard to believe he's an educated person.
I do remember reading years ago that doctors might be more subject to developing narcissistic personality disorder because of the conditions we train and treat them- up on a pedestal and hero-worshipped affectionlessly then villified if they make a mistake or outcome is disappointing....
NPD is markers by false self and grandiose sense of entitlement which certainly fits what I read earlier- since Medicaid fraud started being closely investigated about 5 years ago over 2000 physicians, pharmacists and home healthcare providers have been convicted for billing for hours and services which were not supplied to patients. What kind of professional would do that- rich people stealing from not only their patients but all taxpayers.
