Hi all, I haven't been around for awhile, sorry!
So Last Friday, the 19th of August I got my SCS trial, The pain at the procedure site has been excruciating! Is that normal? It seems to be helping my hips and lower back but like i said the procedure sote hurts soooo bad!!!! no one warned me of this or said anything about it! I talked to the DR, breifly over the weekend and she just said to keep an eye out for fever, redness, etc. she did seem surprised and was supposed to call me back but then had a family emergency and couldn't. I go back in tomorrow to get it taken out and discuss whether i want the full SCS. If it hurts like this I don't know!!! HELP!!!!!! I need advise!!!!

Are you thin? I have heard that not enough fatty tissue where the instal it could be a problem.

My sis has a difb device for her heart (sorry can't begin to spell that one). She is aneroxicly thin and she had go in the hospital after the surgery because the pain was uncontrobal at home.

Hope you find out why!

Did the unit help the pain at all?

Hi ~ I had both the trial and the implanted SCS. I didn't have much pain at the site at all -- what i DID have was taken care of by ICE. Have you put ice on the site at all? Try it -- it should help.

I'm surprised that it hurts so much --- is it right where you have to lean back on it?

I sure hope the pain eases! After I had the implant, I didn't have much pain either -- that also was helped by ice. Unfortunately, I had to have the SCS taken out after 6 months, due to other problems. I hope you can have the implant, since it seems to be helping you so much! Please keep us posted, ok? God bless. yes I am really thin. the Dr. is trying to find out why i am losing weight. I ghave lost 20 pounds in the last 4 months for no reason. It does seem to be helping the pain it was put in for but the pai at the procedure site is so unbearable i would rather live with the old pain.

I had my trial done for my neck. The incision was very small and the pain was gone after a couple of days. It was a huge success. I was awake when they did it and could feel them pushing the leads up my spine, but I had no real pain from the procedure.

I hate to say it, but maybe the doctors messed up.

I wondered if they messed up too. No on ever said there would be any kind of pain especially like this afterwords. Ice does nothing. pain scale is 9-10. there are not enough pain pills in the world to help right now!!! I need help getting out of bed, getting up from my chair, it really hurts that bad!
the Dr. just called and said it is not common but this does happen occasionally. I will find out more tomorrow! I just cannot wait to get it out!!!

Mine did not hurt at all! My PM Doc is an anesthesiologist, so maybe that is why "he got the touch". The day that they implanted in June of 08, I went out with my girlfriends to dinner, so I do not know why yours hurt so much.

When they implant the permanent SCS is done under concious sedation, and really, I don't remember any of it! I am so sorry that your trial went so bad, but if you are not sure about it, is best to say NO. Take care and I hope that things go well.

Mine hurt some too at the site the wires went in. I had the trial back the end of July. I couldn't sit and have anything touch my back cause it hurt too bad. I had to ride in the car sitting way up away from the back of the seat as my back was very sore and every bump felt was awful!! As long as nothing touched my back I was okay. Ice helped but I couldn't put it right on the site as that hurt but I did put it lower down on my back. I didn't get enough relief from it so I am not getting the permanent one. Once they took it out all the pain at the site went away.
