Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I was a lurker in this group for a long time before I started to participate because most of the people here go to pain management doctors, or have a course of treatment that include painkillers to help control the pain you have. I think most of you can relate to each other in that respect.
I know I have chronic pain, but I never put myself in that category because my main pain is chronic migraines, which is the worst because I cannot take any painkillers for it. I also have chronic back pain from completely shattering my L1 vertebrae for which I needed two spinal fusions, but again cannot take any painkillers.
I cant take any type of narcotic or barbiturate painkiller for any of my pain because they will give me a migraine, which on a pain scale of 1-10, will be a 15-20, which leads to bad things like banging my head against walls, or wood floors, or any hard surfaces.
I just dont recall hearing anyone in this group having this type of reaction to pain medication. Im thinking its just me. Does anyone in this group get ANY TYPE of rebound pain from their painkillers? Like, it helps for a while, but then the pain comes back worse?

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

I would love to get off the daily morphine. I'm on two 15 mg tabs a day, cut in half to equal 4 doses. I realize it's a very small dose but I'm a lightweight with most meds. I'm on a pain contract with my regular MD who isn't a pain specialist (my Kaiser doesn't have one); she just wants to give me pills, which she claims I will be on for the rest of my life. We've tried many, many other options.
The morphine doesn't really help with my Degenerative Disk Disease in my neck, nor my arthritis, severe fibromyalgia, or osteoporosis. It takes the edge off my migraine and cluster headaches for a while, then I take another half when my headache starts coming back. I'm never going to get off this crap.
I follow you on another DS board and admire the way you handle your chronic pain with such strength, not giving in to the meds we migraine sufferers know will only make it worse in the long run.
Sorry, went off on a long explanation here just to say, yes, I am a migraineur and a rebounder too.
Take care.

If you get your timing right you might be able to schedule your Triptan before you use pain meds for your back that would offset the head rebound pain. I use Imitrex Injections, Tordol Injections and take a daily Migraine preventative. I have Cluster Migraines that last for days, but I also have multiple other CP causing issues and have to take strong narcotics for those, so it's a balancing act to get everything taken in the right order.
But narcotics don't fit in there anywhere. There is no timing it just right. It's not a matter of taking a triptan first. Which I hate because I get A LOT of back pain, plus I get A LOT of pain from my arthritis. Prescription NSAIDS don't help.
The rebound pain isn't always in my head though. Back in the day when I was taking a good amount of percadan for my back (shortly after my accident), It felt like it was my back wan't getting better. I would take drug holidays and I would only use Ice on my back, and it felt so much better. Then my doctor told me not to do that and to take the medicine again, and sure enough, the pain felt worse. I considered that rebound pain. Has anyone ever experienced that before?
Are more.. when your body reacts the opposite of what the Med does when you stop the Med.
So..Yes.. like .. when pain is actually worse when you stop a medication..
Than if you hadn't had the Med ( this applies when the condition causing the pain hasn't improved or worsened.
It's been a couple of years.. so..I can't remember which opiate caused it..
But..I remember coming on here making a post about how scared I was.. because I NEEDED the opiates.. and.. I was having opiate-induce headaches.
When they accidently nicked my spine in an injection..
I was given Butalbitol ( sp?).. for the headache that caused
Turned out..
That helped with the ( fairly constant) headache I was getting from opiates.
Sounds like you may already have tried everything. ? But..
I thought I would mention this just in case it was one not tried.
It's a combination of firinol (sp?) , tylenol ( I think) and caffeine.
Anyway..
For whatever reason.. a pretty low dose three times a day does the trick on this medication headaches for me.
Sorry if this is kinda all over the place..
I'm not thinking to clearly.
Hugs
jc
Goddamn it..
I meant.. Fiorinol before
So sorry your having these headaches that is so debilating
Sounds like you've tried all modern medicine has to offer
Have you ever tried medical marajuana ?
It's not legal where I am so???
I have heard is can help and its natural,
Just a thought?
Peace
Michael
Anyway, thorazine is in the family of compazine. Both are in the category of "pysch meds", but they are great for migraine pain and WONDERFUL for nausea.
I used to take fiorinal for my headaches, but they cause me the same problem which is rebound. Not right away like a narcotic, but if I had to take it twice in a week...the rebound would be terrible.
Thank god for ice lol. I use lots and lots of ice.
Just so you're aware of the..
Potentially permanent.. side effects that can occur at any time with it.
